Reinforcement of Prefabricated Two-Story Houses

Admin September 19, 2026

The reinforcement of prefabricated two-story houses can be achieved through the following methods, which should be selected comprehensively based on the house's structure, degree of damage, and usage requirements:

1. Foundation Reinforcement
For issues such as insufficient foundation bearing capacity or settlement, the stability of the foundation can be enhanced by increasing the foundation size, deepening the foundation, or adding steel reinforcement mesh. If the foundation consists of weak soil layers, reinforcing agents or foundation sealing materials can be injected to improve seismic performance. This method is suitable for houses with foundation aging, uneven settlement, resulting in tilting or cracking.

2. Structural Reinforcement
Steel beams, columns, or plates can be added to key areas such as walls, stairs, and roofs to form an overall support system and enhance the rigidity of the house. For walls with insufficient seismic resistance, reinforced concrete can be injected into the wall interiors to form a composite structure and improve lateral resistance. This method is suitable for houses with structural aging and numerous wall cracks.

3. Frame Reinforcement
A metal frame can be installed on the exterior walls of the house, fixed with bolts or welding, to form external constraints and enhance overall stability. The frame can be filled with reinforcing agents or sealing materials to reduce frame deformation during earthquakes. This method is suitable for prefabricated houses without a frame structure, and attention should be paid to the anti-corrosion treatment of the metal frame.

4. Seismic Isolation Reinforcement
Devices such as spring isolators and rubber isolators can be installed in the foundation or structure to absorb seismic energy through the isolation layer and reduce the transmission of horizontal and vertical seismic forces. This method can reduce earthquake damage to the house but requires professional design to ensure that the isolation devices match the structure.

5. Floor Reinforcement

  • Section Enlargement Method: Pour a reinforced concrete layer not less than 40 millimeters thick on the surface and bottom of the prefabricated floor to enhance the load-bearing capacity through the协同 (synergistic) action of the new concrete and the original floor.
  • Carbon Fiber Sheet Bonding: Bond carbon fiber sheets along the tensile direction of the floor, with anchor points set at the top, utilizing the high-strength properties of carbon fiber to enhance the floor's flexural capacity.
  • Steel Plate Bonding Method: Bond steel plates to the surface of flexural members and fix them with structural adhesive. However, note that the interface between the steel plate and concrete is prone to peeling and requires regular inspection and maintenance.

6. Beam and Support Reinforcement

  • I-Beam Crossbeams: Select appropriate I-beams based on the length of the prefabricated panels and lay them horizontally beneath the floor, with I-beam columns erected at both ends for support. The columns are fixed to the walls to enhance the floor's hardness.
  • Cross-Beam Reinforcement: Remove part of the prefabricated panels to form crossbeams, add vertical beams to form a cross support, and then pour a new floor to increase the floor's thickness and integrity.

Reinforcement Precautions:

  • Conduct structural inspections before construction to identify damaged areas and their extent.
  • Reinforcement materials must comply with seismic design specifications to ensure they work协同 (synergistically) with the original structure.
  • When structural modifications are involved, they must be designed and constructed by a professional team to avoid damaging the original load-bearing system.
