Classification of Prefabricated Slab Structure Houses

Admin September 19, 2026

Prefabricated slab structure houses are mainly divided into two types: solid and hollow. From a broader classification perspective, they can also be categorized as those primarily based on prefabricated concrete slabs or light steel structures.

Solid and Hollow Prefabricated Slab Structure Houses

Houses with solid prefabricated slabs have slabs that are solid in construction. These solid slabs possess high strength and load-bearing capacity, enabling them to withstand significant loads. They are suitable for building scenarios that demand high structural strength, such as some low-rise residential buildings and small commercial structures. The manufacturing process for solid slabs is relatively straightforward. During production, materials like concrete are poured into a solid slab-like structure, which then undergoes curing and other processes to form the finished product. Their advantages include a stable structure and good durability, allowing them to maintain stable performance over the long term under normal use and maintenance. However, solid slabs are relatively heavy, which to some extent increases the overall weight of the building, raises the requirements for the foundation, and may increase the cost and difficulty of foundation construction.

Houses with hollow prefabricated slabs have slabs with internal cavities. The hollow design reduces the weight of the slabs, thereby decreasing the overall weight of the building, reducing the pressure on the foundation, and helping to lower foundation costs. At the same time, the hollow structure can also provide some degree of thermal and sound insulation. During the production of hollow prefabricated slabs, specific molds and processes are used to create internal cavities, with common cavity shapes including circular and square ones. They are widely used in buildings that have requirements for self-weight and thermal and sound insulation, such as multi-story residential buildings and school teaching buildings. However, the strength of hollow prefabricated slabs is slightly lower than that of solid slabs, and reasonable load calculations are required during design to ensure structural safety.

Types Primarily Based on Prefabricated Concrete Slabs or Light Steel Structures

From a broader classification of prefabricated houses, prefabricated slab houses fall into the category of those primarily based on prefabricated concrete slabs or light steel structures, and this type is mostly suitable for temporary buildings. Temporary buildings primarily based on prefabricated concrete slabs have the characteristic of fast construction speed. The prefabricated concrete slabs can be produced in advance in a factory and then transported to the site for assembly, greatly shortening the construction period. Temporary buildings primarily based on light steel structures have steel with high strength and good toughness, making the building structure more flexible. They can be quickly erected and dismantled, facilitating movement and modification according to different usage requirements. They are commonly used in scenarios such as temporary office buildings on construction sites and temporary warehouses.
