How to Soundproof a Prefabricated Slab House
Admin September 19, 2026
Soundproofing a prefabricated slab house can be achieved by targeted treatment of floors, walls, doors, and windows, selecting appropriate solutions based on different budgets and ceiling height requirements.

I. Floor Soundproofing
- Basic Soundproofing Technique: Use specific soundproofing materials for construction on the prefabricated slab floor. This method is cost-effective and can effectively reduce noise by about 50%, with an overall thickness of no more than 10 centimeters. This solution is suitable for families with limited budgets and low ceiling height requirements.
- Upgraded Vibration Damping Soundproofing: Install vibration-damping springs and polymer damping gel between the ceiling and the joists to block vibrations from upstairs. This technique can cost up to a thousand yuan per square meter and will occupy 15 cm of ceiling height, making it suitable for houses with extremely high soundproofing requirements and sufficient ceiling height.
- Phenolic Foam Board Ceiling: Choose phenolic foam boards with good soundproofing performance and pair them with light steel joists for a simple ceiling. During installation, the phenolic foam boards can be directly glued or nailed in the middle of the ceiling, then covered with gypsum putty and gypsum board. This solution is easy to construct and effectively reduces noise.
- Soundproofing Pad Ceiling: Use foam soundproofing pads with a foamed cavity structure inside. These pads are inexpensive and only about 1 centimeter thick. Noise entering the cavity will circulate and weaken, making them suitable for families with low ceiling heights.
II. Wall Soundproofing Optimization
- Full-Wall Cabinets + Soundproofing Boards: If the walls are thin, add a layer of soundproofing board before applying wallpaper; if opting for latex paint walls, design full-wall cabinets to increase wall thickness. Soft-pack designs or thick curtains and wood veneer decorations can also enhance the wall's noise reduction effect.
- Exterior Wall Insulation + Soundproofing Boards: For houses on the edge, consider adding soundproofing board design when installing exterior wall insulation to further block external noise.
III. Door and Window Soundproofing Upgrades
- Insulated Laminated Glass: If the house is near a railway station, highway, or square dance gathering area, it is recommended to use insulated laminated glass for windows (preferably dry-laminated process) and pair it with a casement window design. This type of glass can effectively block low-frequency noise, and casement windows have better sealing performance than sliding windows.
IV. Other Auxiliary Measures
- Soft-Pack Walls and Thickened Doors: Install soft-pack materials on the walls of bedrooms or living rooms, and thicken bedroom doors with added seals to reduce sound penetration.
- Thickened Curtains: Choose heavy curtains to cover windows, which can both block light and absorb some noise.
By combining the above solutions, the soundproofing performance of a prefabricated slab house can be significantly improved. The specific choice should be based on a comprehensive assessment of noise sources, budget, and ceiling height conditions.
