How to Improve Prefabricated Slab Houses
Admin September 18, 2026
Improving prefabricated slab houses can be approached from two aspects: structural reinforcement and functional upgrades, enhancing both the safety and living comfort of the houses through scientific testing and targeted treatments.

Structural Reinforcement: Core Measures to Ensure House Safety
Local Reinforcement Treatments
- When the load increase is minimal, carbon fiber sheets can be adhered to the bottom of hollow slabs to enhance their load-bearing capacity using their high-strength properties; alternatively, steel beams can be added to disperse the load by altering the stress pattern.
- Classify and treat wall cracks: cracks less than 0.3 millimeters wide can be repaired by grouting with materials such as epoxy resin; severe cracks require steel plate reinforcement, with the plate thickness selected based on the crack severity and fixed to the wall with bolts.
Comprehensive Inspection and Repair of Key Nodes
- Commission a professional agency to conduct a structural safety assessment, focusing on inspecting the crack width at the prefabricated slab production points (special treatment is required for cracks exceeding 0.3 millimeters) and the connection status between the prefabricated slabs and the ring beams. If the bolt corrosion rate exceeds 30%, replace them with stainless steel or galvanized bolts.
- Before construction, erect a temporary support system: set up steel pipe supports every 1.2 meters along the length of the prefabricated slabs, and use H-shaped steel beams (section ≥ 200×200 millimeters) for underpinning at key nodes to ensure construction safety.
- When treating slab joints, remove the original filling material, implant No. 6 threaded steel bars (spacing approximately 200 millimeters), and pour C30 fine aggregate concrete; add constructional columns (section 240×240 millimeters) at the four corners of the house, reinforced with No. 6 and No. 8 steel bars and connected to the floor slab to enhance overall stability.
Foundation Reinforcement
- If uneven settlement occurs in the foundation, pile driving reinforcement is required. Select concrete piles or steel pipe piles based on geological conditions, with the pile depth penetrating the weak soil layer to the bearing layer, and the pile spacing determined by calculating the house load.
Functional Upgrades: Key Links to Enhance Living Comfort
Sound Insulation Optimization
- Install sound insulation boards (such as polyester fiber acoustic panels or mineral wool boards) on the wall surface, with a recommended thickness of over 50 millimeters; replace windows with double-glazed units (gap ≥ 12 millimeters), which can reduce noise by over 70%.
- Seal door and window gaps with sealing strips to reduce sound penetration.
Waterproofing Repairs
- For roof leaks, completely remove the original waterproofing layer, clean the substrate, and lay SBS modified asphalt waterproofing membranes (thickness ≥ 4 millimeters), with a lap width of no less than 100 millimeters; add additional layers at nodes such as parapet walls and chimneys.
- For wall seepage, inspect the exterior wall tiles or coating layer, remove the hollow parts, and repaint with waterproofing coatings (such as polyurethane waterproofing coatings), with a thickness of over 1.5 millimeters.
Through systematic structural reinforcement and functional upgrades, prefabricated slab houses can significantly enhance their safety and living quality, extending their service life. It is recommended to consult a structural engineer before implementation to develop a targeted plan and strictly supervise the construction quality.
