Carbon Fiber Reinforcement for Prefabricated Slab Houses

Admin September 19, 2026

Carbon fiber reinforcement can be effectively used for strengthening prefabricated slab houses, significantly improving structural performance. It is applicable in various scenarios, and its effectiveness is influenced by multiple factors.

Reinforcement Effects

  • Increased Load-Bearing Capacity: The tensile strength of carbon fiber cloth is more than 10 times that of ordinary steel bars. For example, the tensile strength of Grade I carbon fiber cloth is ≥3400 MPa. Engineering cases show that after reinforcement, the load-bearing capacity of the floor slab can increase by 30% - 50%. This can compensate for load-bearing deficiencies caused by design shortcomings, changes in usage functions, or damage, meeting the requirements for additional loads or seismic resistance.
  • Crack and Deformation Control: The high elastic modulus of carbon fiber cloth (e.g., the elastic modulus of Grade I cloth is ≥2.4×10⁵ MPa) can limit the deflection deformation of the floor slab under load, reduce crack width and quantity, and extend the service life of the structure.
  • Enhanced Durability: Carbon fiber cloth is corrosion-resistant and aging-resistant, protecting the floor slab from environmental erosion such as moisture and chemicals. It is particularly suitable for harsh environments such as marine climates and chemical plants.
  • Construction Convenience: No large-scale equipment is required, and the construction period is short, typically 3 - 7 days. It causes minimal damage to the original structure and is suitable for scenarios with limited space or requiring rapid restoration of use.

Applicable Scenarios

  • Design or Construction Defects: Applicable when the original floor slab has insufficient reinforcement or substandard concrete strength, resulting in insufficient load-bearing capacity.
  • Change in Usage Function: Can be adopted when the floor slab needs to bear additional equipment, partitions, or dense crowds, exceeding the original design scope.
  • Structural Damage Repair: Applicable when the floor slab has cracks or steel bar corrosion due to fire, earthquake, impact, etc., and needs to restore structural integrity.
  • Seismic Reinforcement: Can improve the connection strength between the floor slab and beam-column joints, enhancing overall seismic performance.

Key Influencing Factors

  • Material Quality: Carbon fiber cloth must comply with national standards, and the bonding strength, temperature resistance, and aging resistance of structural adhesives must meet requirements.
  • Design Rationality: Professional calculations should be carried out based on the actual stress conditions of the floor slab to determine the specifications, number of layers, and粘贴方式 (pasting method) of carbon fiber cloth.
  • Construction Quality: During construction, attention should be paid to base treatment, uniform adhesive application, pressurization and air exhaust, and curing conditions.
  • Post-Maintenance: Regularly check whether the surface of the carbon fiber cloth is delaminating or cracking, especially focusing on stress concentration areas such as beam edges and column edges.
