Prefabricated Panels for Whole Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

Prefabricated panels for whole houses refer to the prefabricated panel parts used when constructing houses with prefabricated panels as the main components, possessing specific structures, uses, characteristics, and development status.

Structure and Types

Prefabricated panels are cement components prefabricated in factories. During production, a model is first made by nailing wooden boards, then steel bars are arranged and cement is poured to form the panels, which are divided into solid and hollow types. The hollow structure achieves lightweighting by reducing the non-load-bearing concrete, ensuring a certain level of strength while reducing the self-weight of the components, facilitating transportation and installation.

Uses

Prefabricated panels have a wide range of uses in the construction field. They are commonly used as floor slabs, providing horizontal support for buildings and bearing upper loads; they can also be used as roof insulation layers to reduce heat transfer and improve the indoor thermal environment. In addition, cement panels covering ditches beside highways and those used as insulation layers on roofs can also be made of prefabricated panels, demonstrating the diversity of their applications.

Characteristics

  • Advantages: Prefabricated panels can significantly shorten the construction period. Since they are prefabricated in factories, only installation is required on-site, reducing the time and procedures of on-site construction; at the same time, they can reduce costs, as mass production in factories can lower the unit cost.
  • Disadvantages: Existing prefabricated panel houses generally have some problems. They have weak earthquake resistance and are prone to damage during natural disasters such as earthquakes; they have poor sound and heat insulation, affecting the comfort of living; their service life is about 30 - 50 years, which is relatively short, and the performance of the houses will gradually decline over time.

Development Status

With the development of construction technology, cast-in-place concrete and prefabricated buildings are gradually replacing traditional prefabricated panel houses. However, prefabricated buildings also use modular factory-prefabricated components. For example, CMC combined modular buildings enhance earthquake resistance through steel-concrete integral pouring and shorten the construction period by 30% compared to traditional methods, improving performance while retaining the advantages of prefabrication. Since 2022, China has implemented a policy of old community renovations, focusing on repairing and renovating prefabricated panel houses and only demolishing buildings that meet the criteria for dangerous houses, aiming to improve residents' living quality and ensure living safety.
