Prefabricated Panels for Single-Story Houses
Prefabricated panels can be used for single-story houses, with different applications and characteristics in various scenarios.

As an Elevated Floor for Damp Prevention
Constructing an elevated floor using prefabricated panels between the foundation and the first-floor ground is an effective method for damp prevention. The principle is that after foundation construction is completed, ground beams are poured and backfilled with soil. The height of the backfilled soil is controlled to be 30 - 50 centimeters above the ground and then compacted. Prefabricated panels are laid at this height to form an elevated floor. Underground moisture rises into the cavity and naturally dissipates, unable to reach the first-floor ground, thus providing damp prevention. This method is widely applied in humid areas or regions with high groundwater levels, effectively protecting the indoor environment from dampness and extending the building's service life.
As the Roof of the First Floor (In the Case of Building a Second Floor in Rural Areas)
In rural self-built houses, if there are plans to add a second floor, a combination of using prefabricated panels for the first floor and a cast-in-place roof for the second floor is feasible. The advantage of this structure is that the second-floor cast-in-place roof is connected to columns and ground beams, forming an integral structure for the house, significantly enhancing stability and reducing the risk of water leakage caused by structural separation. Meanwhile, as factory-prefabricated cement components, prefabricated panels are made by nailing wooden models, laying steel bars, and pouring cement. They come in two types: solid and hollow. The hollow structure achieves lightweighting by reducing non-load-bearing concrete, lowering material costs and transportation difficulties.
However, it should be noted that prefabricated panel buildings have certain limitations: they have relatively weak earthquake resistance, poor sound insulation and thermal insulation performance, and a service life of about 30 - 50 years. Most residential buildings constructed before 1985 in China used this type of structure, and existing prefabricated panel houses generally face aging issues. Therefore, if prefabricated panels are used as the roof of the first floor, the overall structural integrity should be fully considered in the design, and the deficiencies of the prefabricated panels should be compensated for by the second-floor cast-in-place roof. Regular inspections and maintenance should also be carried out to ensure building safety.
