Prefabricated Panels for Interior Decoration

Admin September 19, 2026

In interior decoration of houses, prefabricated panels (prefabricated concrete panels) are common structural components that require construction according to their characteristics to ensure quality.

1. Characteristics of Prefabricated Panels

Prefabricated panels are cast and formed in factories using concrete and steel reinforcement. Their surfaces are generally flat but may have pores, mold release agent residues, or micro-cracks that affect the adhesion of putty. Standard dimensions are as follows: length ranges from 3 to 4.2 meters (increments of 30 cm; custom sizes required for lengths exceeding 4.2 meters), width ranges from 50 to 60 cm, and thickness is 12 cm (for ordinary rooms) or 15 cm (for load-bearing scenarios). During construction, avoid making random holes (which can easily lead to cracking) and prevent water leakage from gaps in areas such as bathrooms.

2. Decoration Construction Process

  1. Surface Inspection and Cleaning

    • Inspect for pores, cracks, and oil stains; sand or wire brush uneven areas.
    • Clean surface dust and, if necessary, rinse with a high-pressure water gun and ensure complete drying.
  2. Base Layer Treatment

    • Joint Treatment: Use polyurethane sealant to fill gaps between prefabricated panels to prevent putty cracking.
    • Enhancing Adhesion: For surfaces with low water absorption, apply a bonding agent (such as a concrete-specific bonding treatment agent) to improve putty adhesion.
  3. Putty Application and Subsequent Processes

    • Apply putty in layers (each layer ≤ 2 mm thick), sanding smooth after each layer dries.
    • Final decoration options include painting, wallpapering, or tiling, ensuring the base layer is completely dry.

3. Advantages and Disadvantages of Prefabricated Panels

  • Advantages:
    • Efficient Construction: Factory production shortens construction time, suitable for rapid delivery projects.
    • Stable Quality: Produced in controlled environments, reducing on-site construction errors.
    • Environmentally Friendly and Energy-Efficient: Reduces on-site waste, dust, and noise pollution.
  • Disadvantages:
    • Transportation Limitations: Large-sized panels require special transportation vehicles, increasing costs.
    • Design Limitations: Modular design makes it difficult to achieve complex shapes, with lower flexibility.
    • Connection Issues: Joints require special treatment (such as welding or bolt connections); otherwise, structural stability may be affected.

4. Application Scenarios

Prefabricated panels are widely used in walls, floors, and other structures of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, especially suitable for temporary buildings, modular buildings, or projects requiring rapid construction (such as post-disaster reconstruction). During decoration, choose treatment methods based on surface conditions: if the surface is flat and crack-free, putty can be applied directly; if pores or mold release agent residues are present, sanding and application of a bonding agent are required first.
