Principle of Prefabricated Panel Structure Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

Prefabricated panel structure houses are constructed using prefabricated panels as the main components, which are assembled on-site. The core principle lies in utilizing factory-produced standardized components to achieve efficient construction and structural stability.

I. Production and Types of Prefabricated Panels

Prefabricated panels are cement components produced through standardized processes in factories. During production, wooden molds are first nailed together, steel reinforcement skeletons are arranged, and then cement is poured to form the panels. Based on structural differences, prefabricated panels are divided into two types: solid and hollow:

  • Solid Prefabricated Panels: These have no internal cavities and have a uniform overall structure, making them suitable for areas with high load-bearing requirements.
  • Hollow Prefabricated Panels: These have regularly arranged elongated cavities inside, achieving lightweight construction by reducing the amount of non-load-bearing concrete. Although the hollow structure reduces weight, the load-bearing capacity is not significantly compromised, still ensuring the stability of the house. This design not only reduces material costs but also lessens the pressure on the foundation.

II. Construction Principle: On-Site Assembly and Structural Connection

The construction principle of prefabricated panel structure houses is similar to "building with blocks." After transporting the factory-produced components to the site, they are assembled to form a complete structure. Specific construction points include:

  1. Installation Positioning: Prefabricated panels must be precisely placed according to design drawings. Since the panel ends bear upper loads, end caps are installed at the panel ends to prevent concrete debris from falling and to enhance local strength.
  2. Panel Joint Treatment: Panel joints must be filled with cement mortar according to specifications to ensure the integrity of the floor slab. Mortar filling not only transfers loads but also prevents water penetration, improving structural durability.
  3. Structural Connection: Prefabricated panels are connected to walls, beams, and other components through steel reinforcement anchoring or welding, forming an overall load-bearing system to avoid local stress concentration.

III. Advantages and Application Scenarios

The core advantages of prefabricated panel structure houses lie in shortening the construction period and reducing costs:

  • Factory-produced components can be manufactured in parallel, reducing on-site construction time.
  • Standardized components reduce material waste and lower labor costs.
  • Hollow structures reduce self-weight, making them suitable for areas with low foundation bearing capacity.

This structure is widely used in multi-story residential buildings, schools, hospitals, and other structures, especially suitable for projects sensitive to construction period and cost. However, it should be noted that prefabricated panels have high requirements for construction accuracy. Improper panel joint treatment may affect structural safety, so strict adherence to construction specifications is necessary.
