Is Prefabricated Panel Assembled House Good or Not?

Admin September 19, 2026

The overall evaluation of prefabricated panel assembled houses is not very positive. They have certain drawbacks, but also some advantages.

Drawbacks

  • Prone to cracking and water leakage: In prefabricated panel assembled houses, the gaps between the prefabricated panels are relatively weak points. Due to factors such as construction techniques, material quality, and subsequent house settlement, there is a relatively high possibility of these gaps cracking and leaking water. Once water leakage occurs, it will not only affect the indoor living environment but may also cause damage to the house structure, such as rusting of internal steel bars, further reducing the stability of the house.
  • Poor overall integrity and structural strength: Although prefabricated panel assembled houses are equipped with structural measures such as ring beams and anchors, compared with monolithic cast-in-place houses, their overall integrity is still relatively poor. When facing natural disasters such as earthquakes, prefabricated panel assembled houses with relatively low structural strength are more likely to collapse or suffer severe damage, posing a significant threat to the lives of the occupants.
  • Short service life: The service life of prefabricated panel assembled houses is generally only 30 - 40 years, which is significantly shorter compared to some other types of houses. Moreover, as the service time increases, the main structure of the house is prone to aging phenomena, such as wall cracking and deformation of prefabricated panels. At the same time, the electrical wiring and piping systems may also have safety hazards due to aging, requiring frequent maintenance and replacement.

Advantages

  • Making hollow prefabricated panels can reduce weight and save costs: By making hollow prefabricated panels, the overall weight of the house can be effectively reduced, lowering the requirements for the foundation and thus saving foundation treatment costs to a certain extent. At the same time, the production process of hollow prefabricated panels is relatively simple, and the material consumption is less, which helps to reduce the cost of the house.
  • Fast construction speed: The prefabricated panels are produced in advance in the factory and only need to be assembled on the construction site, greatly shortening the construction period. This is of obvious advantage for projects that urgently need housing or for engineering projects with strict time requirements.
