National Standards for Prefabricated Housing

Admin September 19, 2026

The following are the main national and industry standards related to prefabricated housing:

I. Implemented National Standards The "General Technical Conditions for Prefabricated Components in Prefabricated Concrete Buildings" is an important national standard in the field of prefabricated housing, with the standard number GB/T 40399-2021, officially implemented from March 1, 2022. This standard specifies the technical requirements for prefabricated components in prefabricated concrete buildings, covering core indicators such as material properties, production processes, dimensional accuracy, and mechanical properties. It provides a unified technical basis for the design, production, inspection, and acceptance of prefabricated components, ensuring their quality stability and interchangeability, and promoting the standardized development of prefabricated concrete buildings.

II. Upcoming Industry Standards The "Technical Standard for Prestressed Prefabricated Concrete Frame Structures," formulated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, has been approved as an industry standard and will be implemented from April 1, 2025. This standard applies to prestressed prefabricated concrete frame structures in seismic fortification intensity zones of 9 degrees and below, covering the entire process of design, fabrication, construction, and acceptance. Its core contents include design principles for structural systems, requirements for prestressed reinforcement layout, node connection details, construction process specifications, and acceptance criteria, aiming to enhance the seismic performance and construction efficiency of prestressed prefabricated frame structures and standardize industry technical practices.

III. National Standards Under Solicitation of Comments The national standard "Appearance Quality Requirements and Dimensional Deviation Limits for Prefabricated Concrete Components in Prefabricated Buildings (Draft for Comments)" is currently in the stage of soliciting comments, with the deadline for feedback being October 13, 2025. This standard proposes specific limit requirements for the appearance quality (such as cracks, honeycombs, pitting, and other defects) and dimensional deviations (length, width, height, flatness, etc.) of prefabricated concrete components, and clarifies inspection methods and judgment rules. Its formulation will further improve the quality control system for prefabricated components and provide technical support for the high-quality construction of prefabricated buildings.

IV. Significance of Standard Implementation The implementation and advancement of the aforementioned standards reflect China's emphasis on technical specifications in the field of prefabricated housing. The implemented standards provide a basic technical framework for the industry, the upcoming industry standards fill technical gaps in specific structural systems, and the standards under solicitation of comments focus on component quality details. Together, they form a standard system covering the entire chain of design, production, and construction, helping to improve the overall quality, safety, and durability of prefabricated housing and promoting the industry's development towards standardization and normalization.
