Prefabricated Houses Around the World

Admin September 18, 2026

Chinese prefabricated houses have performed outstandingly around the world and have been widely welcomed.

I. Basic Information about Chinese Prefabricated Houses Chinese prefabricated houses, scientifically known as expandable container houses, fall under the category of prefabricated buildings. Their core production model involves manufacturing components in factories and then assembling them on-site. This model breaks through the limitations of traditional construction methods, which are affected by factors such as site and climate, and achieves standardization and industrialization in building production. For example, in modular construction, buildings are disassembled into independent modules. The ceilings, floors, water and electricity pipelines, etc., of the house are all prefabricated on the factory assembly line and then transported to the site for assembly, similar to building with building blocks.

II. Advantages of Chinese Prefabricated Houses

  1. Low Price: A fully furnished 70-square-meter house with a bedroom, kitchen, and independent bathroom can be completed for less than $30,000 (approximately 200,000 yuan), significantly reducing costs compared to traditional construction and offering extremely high cost-effectiveness.
  2. Short Construction Period: Traditional house construction usually takes several months or even a year, while Chinese prefabricated houses compress the time to one month for production, one month for transportation, and one day for assembly, greatly shortening the construction cycle and improving efficiency.
  3. Controllable Quality: Production on the factory assembly line ensures the stable quality of each component, avoiding quality issues caused by differences in the skill levels of construction workers in traditional construction.
  4. Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection: Factory-based production reduces noise, dust, and other pollution from on-site construction. At the same time, materials are used more precisely, reducing waste and aligning with the development concept of green buildings.
  5. Easy Maintenance: The modular design makes building maintenance more convenient. If a problem occurs in a module, it can be replaced or repaired individually.

III. Development of Chinese Prefabricated Houses Around the World The export volume of Chinese prefabricated buildings increased from $1.472 billion in 2015 to $4.339 billion in 2025, nearly tripling in a decade, with a growth rate of 45% in the first quarter of 2026 alone. In Europe and the United States, Chinese prefabricated houses have been in high demand. The basic prefabricated house is priced at $6,800, and different types such as expandable and foldable ones can meet various needs. The interior can be customized with different layouts according to requirements, and customization services are also available. These houses are shipped to places like the United States for use as residences and post-disaster relief housing.
