Can Prefabricated Houses Be Built Without Foundations?
Whether a prefabricated house requires a foundation depends on the specific circumstances, and not all prefabricated houses can be built without one.

Specially designed prefabricated houses: Some new prefabricated houses, such as the OM 1, utilize a portal frame design where each column can be individually extended or shortened, combined with the Surefoot standardized cement-free foundation system. This special design minimizes disturbance to the base soil and reduces cement usage, allowing for construction without traditional foundation methods to a certain extent. However, this represents a relatively special design scenario and is not universally applicable to all prefabricated houses.
Determined by the characteristics of the prefabricated components themselves: Typically, whether concrete prefabricated components require a foundation depends on factors such as their size, weight, and usage scenarios. If the prefabricated components are relatively light and small, simply laying a thick layer of sand or a cushion on the ground can provide sufficient support and stability to meet their usage needs. However, if the prefabricated components are very large and heavy, merely laying sand or a cushion is far from enough, and a foundation must be laid on top of them. Only a sturdy foundation can bear the enormous weight of the prefabricated components, ensuring they are firmly and stably placed, and avoiding issues such as tilting or sinking.
From the perspective of building safety and stability: The foundation is a crucial part of a building, bearing the entire weight of the structure and transferring it to the underlying soil or rock layers. If a prefabricated house lacks a foundation or has an unstable one, the building cannot exist stably. When subjected to external forces such as earthquakes or strong winds, or under the long-term influence of its own weight, the building is prone to structural damage or collapse, posing serious safety hazards and endangering people's lives and property. Therefore, from the perspective of ensuring building safety and stability, most prefabricated houses still require foundations.
