Prefabricated House Steel Structure

Admin September 18, 2026

Prefabricated house steel structure is a form of residential building that uses a steel structure system as the main load-bearing structure and adopts a prefabricated construction method.

Structural System and Composition

The prefabricated house steel structure system consists of a structural system, an exterior enclosure system, a mechanical and piping system, and an interior decoration system. The structural system is the core, typically employing forms such as steel frames, steel frame-bracing, or steel frame-core tube structures. Among them, frame columns often use profiled steel or concrete-filled steel tubular columns, beams use profiled steel beams, floor slabs use composite slabs or steel bar truss floor decking, and are equipped with prefabricated stairs. For the exterior enclosure system, materials such as autoclaved aerated concrete panels and integrated composite wall panels are commonly used for exterior walls. The interior decoration system adopts prefabricated decoration, and interior partition walls select panel-type or light steel keel-type walls.

Advantages and Characteristics

Prefabricated house steel structures offer numerous advantages. Good seismic performance: Steel structures have good ductility and toughness, effectively absorbing and dissipating seismic energy and reducing damage to buildings during earthquakes. Fast construction speed: With the prefabricated construction method, building components are manufactured in factories and assembled on-site, reducing on-site construction procedures and time, and significantly shortening the construction cycle. Green and low-carbon: Steel can be recycled, reducing the generation of construction waste and meeting the requirements of sustainable development. High space utilization: Steel structural components have small cross-sectional dimensions, increasing the usable area of buildings. Flexible layout: Steel structures are easy to modify and rearrange, meeting the needs of different users.

Application and Development

In China, steel structure residences have been applied in projects such as Baotou Wanjun Metropolis and Hangzhou Qianjiang Century City talent-specific housing, including affordable housing and commercial housing. Since 2016, national policies have vigorously promoted prefabricated buildings, and the prefabricated house steel structure industry has been continuously developing. However, the industry also faces challenges such as high construction costs, the need to improve some physical properties, and the need to further increase market acceptance. Currently, the industry is improving these conditions through system innovation. According to plans, by 2030, the target application ratio of steel structures in newly started residential buildings nationwide is expected to reach around 10%. Currently, it accounts for about 7% of newly built prefabricated buildings in China, indicating significant potential for future development.
