Prefabricated Floor Slab for House Frame

Admin September 18, 2026

A prefabricated floor slab for a house frame is a floor slab used in house construction where prefabricated slabs are the main components. Prefabricated slabs are cement components prefabricated in factories.

Production Process

The production of prefabricated slabs starts with nailing wooden boards to form a hollow mold. After reasonably arranging steel bars in the hollow part of the mold, cement is poured until the hollow part is filled. Once the cement dries and solidifies, the outer wooden boards are knocked off, and the remaining part is the prefabricated slab. According to structural differences, prefabricated slabs are divided into two types: solid and hollow. Hollow prefabricated slabs achieve an overall lightweight design by reducing the amount of concrete in non-load-bearing parts while maintaining structural strength.

Application Scenarios

Prefabricated slabs are widely used in the construction field, with common applications including:

  1. Infrastructure Coverage: Such as cover plates for ditches beside highways and roof insulation layers. Their standardized dimensions and load-bearing capacity enable rapid installation.
  2. Residential Buildings: Most residential buildings constructed in China before 1985 adopted prefabricated slab house structures. Prefabricated slabs were spliced to form floor slabs, roofs, and other components, shortening the construction period.
  3. Temporary Buildings: Due to their modular nature, prefabricated slabs were once used to build temporary factories, warehouses, and other low-rise buildings.

Existing Problems

  1. Weak Seismic Performance: Prefabricated slabs are connected through nodes, resulting in insufficient integrity. They are prone to displacement or detachment under seismic action.
  2. Poor Sound and Heat Insulation: The hollow structure or concrete material leads to high sound and heat conduction efficiency, requiring additional sound insulation layers or thermal insulation materials.
  3. Limited Service Life: The design life of ordinary prefabricated slabs is about 30-50 years. After long-term environmental erosion, problems such as steel bar corrosion and concrete carbonation may occur.

Policy Orientation

Since 2022, China has implemented differentiated treatment of prefabricated slab houses under the old community renovation policy:

  • For buildings that do not meet the criteria for dilapidated houses, the focus is on repair and renovation, with an emphasis on strengthening the structure, updating pipelines, and improving sound and heat insulation performance.
  • Only prefabricated slab houses identified as dilapidated are demolished to avoid resource waste caused by large-scale demolition. This policy reflects the importance attached to the safety of existing buildings while taking into account economic and sustainable development requirements.
