How to Renovate Houses Using Prefabricated Panels

Admin September 18, 2026

Prefabricated factories generally do not directly engage in house renovation, but the following steps can be referenced for renovating old houses with prefabricated panels:

Design and Planning
Before renovation, conduct a comprehensive inspection of the house to assess structural safety, the degree of wall aging, and the layout of water and electrical lines. Based on the inspection results, determine a renovation plan that aligns with living needs, specifying the scope of demolition and modification (such as adjustments to non-load-bearing walls), functional zoning (such as re-division of living rooms and bedrooms), and decorative style (such as modern minimalism or vintage). During the design phase, reserve space for future upgrades, such as wiring interfaces for smart home devices.

Structural Reinforcement and Demolition/Modification
Prefabricated panel houses, due to their age, may have issues such as foundation settlement or wall cracking. During renovation, prioritize reinforcing the foundation by adding ground beams or injecting concrete to enhance stability; perform anti-crack treatment on the joints of prefabricated panels, such as pasting carbon fiber cloth or applying high-strength mortar. During the demolition/modification phase, strictly avoid load-bearing structures and only adjust non-load-bearing walls, which should be carried out by qualified teams to avoid disrupting the overall load-bearing balance of the house.

Concealed Works Renovation
Water and electrical lines are key focuses of renovation. Replace all old lines with flame-retardant copper wires and increase the number of circuits to meet the needs of high-power appliances; it is recommended to use PPR pipes for water pipes to prevent rusting and blockage. During construction, follow the principle of 'water lines on top, electrical lines on the floor' for easier future maintenance. During the acceptance phase, conduct pressure tests (for water pipes) and power-on tests (for electrical circuits) to ensure no leaks or short circuits.

Basic Works Renovation
For wall treatment, first remove the original putty layer, apply an interface agent to enhance adhesion, then apply water-resistant putty in layers and sand it smooth; for the floor, remove old tiles or wooden flooring, lay underfloor heating, and then cover with tiles or laminate flooring. Pay special attention to waterproofing in kitchen and bathroom areas, with wall waterproofing height not less than 1.8 meters, and apply flexible waterproof coating to the floor 2-3 times, with a closed-water test lasting 48 hours to ensure no leaks.

Soft Furnishings and Detail Renovation
For walls, choose environmentally friendly latex paint or wall coverings to enhance texture; for the roof, it is recommended to reinforce it and then lay an insulation layer, followed by covering with colored steel tiles or integrated ceiling; replace windows with broken bridge aluminum frames paired with insulated glass to reduce noise by 30%-50%; upgrade door locks to smart fingerprint locks for enhanced security. When it comes to soft furnishings, pay attention to color coordination and avoid excessive decoration that may affect spatial permeability.
