Prefabricated Container House Module
Admin September 15, 2026
A prefabricated container house module is a prefabricated building form where the building is divided into independent modules in the factory, and after the completion of the main structure and interior decoration, it is transported to the site for assembly into a complete building.

Construction Process
- Factory Prefabrication: The entire building is divided into individual house modules, and the manufacturing of the main structure, water and electricity pipelines, bathroom waterproofing, bathroom fixtures, cabinets, wardrobes, etc., is completed inside the factory. For example, a structural modular intelligent factory in Guangdong disassembles a house into six components: the bottom, top, and four sides, and produces them simultaneously on multiple sub-production lines. Finally, they are assembled into a complete box at the end of the production line.
- On-site Assembly: The prefabricated modules are transported to the project site and assembled like building blocks to form a complete building. For instance, the Suzhou Zhongnan team adopted the "factory prefabrication + on-site rapid assembly" model and completed the delivery of 1,000 accommodation modules and supporting facilities for the Qatar World Cup Fan Village project within three months.
Advantages and Characteristics
- High Construction Efficiency: The parallel operation mode is adopted, with multiple processes carried out simultaneously, significantly shortening the construction period compared to traditional methods. For example, the construction period of steel-structure modular houses is more than halved compared to traditional methods; in the China Construction Science and Industry Corporation's MRDC modular hotel project in Papua New Guinea, the traditional construction method required a complete delivery period of 14 to 18 months, while the modular solution took only about 7 months in total.
- Controllable Quality: Manufactured on factory assembly lines, the manufacturing precision is stable, and the quality is standardized. For example, China's first steel-structure modular intelligent production line maintains a stable manufacturing precision of 1 to 2 millimeters.
- Reusability: It can be repeatedly disassembled and relocated to different places, meeting the needs for recycling in scenarios such as engineering camps, cultural tourism, and emergency response.
- Environmental Friendliness: Construction waste, dust, and noise pollution are significantly reduced. It also greatly reduces the consumption of base and main structure building materials, cutting the use of building materials by 60 - 70%. The waste from factory standardized CNC cutting is only 3% - 5%.
Market Prospects
The overseas market demand continues to grow rapidly. In the first half of 2026, China's total export value of prefabricated assembled buildings under HS code 9406 was 2.79 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 45%. Steel-structure modular houses are the main export category.
