Prefabricated Concrete House Modules
Prefabricated concrete house modules are concrete building components prefabricated in factories and assembled on-site, offering advantages such as short construction periods, controllable quality, and energy efficiency and environmental protection. They are an important form of modern modular construction.

Manufacturing and Construction Mode
Prefabricated concrete house modules adopt a modular construction approach, breaking down buildings into independent modules. All processes, including ceiling, floor, and utility pipeline prefabrication, are completed in factories. The modules are then transported to construction sites and assembled through hoisting. This method of "factory assembly-line production + on-site building-block assembly" achieves standardized and industrialized production of building components, significantly shortening construction periods. For example, a public housing project in Shenzhen reduced its completion and delivery time from the traditional 2.5-3 years to just 1 year through modular construction, with a roughly 50% reduction in on-site labor.
Technical Advantages
Compared to traditional construction methods, modular construction offers significant advantages:
- Short construction periods: Factory prefabrication and on-site construction proceed simultaneously, reducing on-site work time;
- Controllable quality: The stable factory environment ensures high component precision, with quality less affected by weather and labor factors;
- Energy efficiency and environmental protection: Reduces on-site noise, dust, construction waste, and traffic congestion, aligning with green building principles;
- Easy maintenance: Modular design facilitates later repair, replacement, or upgrades.
Development History
The concept of prefabricated concrete modules dates back to Thomas Edison's experiments in 1899, with further advancement through Moshe Safdie's "Habitat" project in 1967. In China, the 2001 ban on clay bricks in Beijing spurred related technological research and development. In 2023, Shenzhen released the "Technical Specification for Concrete Modular Construction," and the country's first concrete modular high-rise building, "Huazhang Xinzhu," was completed in Shenzhen the same year. In 2025, Guangdong Province began formulating the "Technical Standard for Concrete Modular Construction," and in 2026, the Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Unit 4 adopted this technology, with the first hoisted module weighing 454.289 tons, marking its mature application in large-scale projects.
Application Scenarios
Prefabricated concrete house modules have been widely used in public housing, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and nuclear power projects, particularly suitable for projects with high demands on construction periods and environmental protection. With the improvement of technical standards and accumulation of construction experience, their application scope is expected to further expand.
