Portable Vacuum Toilet

Admin September 22, 2026

A portable vacuum toilet is a water-saving and environmentally friendly mobile public toilet based on the principle of vacuum negative pressure. It has the advantages of complete configuration, efficient water saving, and closed piping, making it suitable for various scenarios such as parks and rural areas.

Core Technology Principle

The core of a portable vacuum toilet is vacuum negative pressure technology, which sucks waste into the piping system through air pressure differences. Its flushing process consists of two steps: high-pressure gas flushing and negative pressure suction. The water consumption per flush is only 0.5-1 liters, saving about 80% of water compared to traditional toilets. This technology generates negative pressure through a vacuum pump, creating an instant vacuum inside the toilet bowl. Waste is quickly sucked into the closed piping and ultimately transported to the fecal storage tank.

System Composition and Advantages

  1. Main Components: These include a vacuum toilet bowl, piping, a vacuum pump, and a fecal storage tank. The vacuum toilet bowl is specially designed to ensure airtightness; the piping has a diameter about one-third that of traditional systems, reducing the risk of blockages; the vacuum pump provides continuous negative pressure power; and the fecal storage tank is used for centralized storage of waste, which is cleaned periodically.
  2. Water Saving and Environmental Protection: The extremely low water consumption per flush makes it suitable for areas with scarce water resources; the closed piping design effectively controls the spread of odors, preventing secondary pollution.
  3. Piping Advantages: The small pipe diameter makes it less prone to blockages, supports same-floor drainage, and eliminates the need for complex underground works, reducing construction costs.

Application Scenarios and Cases

Portable vacuum toilets are suitable for park scenic spots, rural residences, temporary event venues, etc. For example:

  • Yueliang Village, Hengshui, Hebei: In 2017, the entire village was renovated, and vacuum toilets were introduced, earning it the title of "Asia's First Vacuum Toilet Village" and solving the problems of poor sanitation and heavy pollution in traditional rural toilets.
  • Civilian Low-Cost Solutions: Some versions achieve low-cost applications by integrating equipment such as vacuum sewage discharge valves and passive vacuum collectors, making them suitable for decentralized residences or remote areas.

Technological Extensions and Improvements

Some civilian versions further optimize their designs, such as:

  • Vacuum Sewage Discharge Valves: These replace traditional water seals, reducing water consumption;
  • Passive Vacuum Collectors: These utilize gravity and air pressure differences to collect waste, reducing energy consumption.

These improvements make them more adaptable to the needs of families or small communities, promoting the popularization of environmentally friendly toilets.
