Simple Version of Portable Toilet

The simple version of the portable toilet can be made from everyday materials such as water storage barrels or tanks, with a core structure including storage devices, mobile components, sanitary ware, and simple walls and roofs.

I. Production Plan Based on Water Storage Barrels

1. Basic Structure Construction

   • Barrel Modification: Split the water storage barrel vertically in the middle to form two semi-circular containers. Choose a corrosion-resistant plastic barrel (such as a chemical barrel) that is non-toxic and has good sealing properties.
   • Mobile Device Installation: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board (slightly larger in size than the diameter of the barrel bottom) to form a mobile base. Secure the bottom of the split water storage barrel to the wooden board to enhance stability.
   • Height Adjustment: Fix wooden strips vertically along the barrel body to increase the overall height to 1.8-2 meters for ease of use. The wooden strips need to be tightly connected to the barrel body to prevent wobbling.

2. Functional Component Installation

   • Door Frame and Walls: Cut a doorway (about 60 cm wide) on the side of the water storage barrel and wrap the edges with sponge strips to prevent scratches. Embed transparent plastic soft panels as walls, with a height covering below the roof to ensure privacy.
   • Roof Design: Invert the upper half of the water storage barrel onto the top of the wooden strips to form an arched roof. Seal the connection between the roof and the walls with waterproof glue to prevent rainwater infiltration.
   • Sanitary Ware: Install a simple toilet (such as a plastic bucket with a toilet seat), with the bottom connected to a drain pipe leading into the barrel to store fecal wastewater. If a flushing function is required, a small water tank can be added to achieve flushing through a manual pump or gravity.

II. Production Plan Based on Water Storage Tanks

1. Mobile Base Construction

   • Support Plate and Wheels: Select a metal or wooden support plate, with a size adjusted according to the diameter of the water storage tank (usually 80-100 cm in diameter). Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of the support plate to ensure load-bearing capacity.
   • Tank Fixation: Place the water storage tank in the center of the support plate and secure it with metal hoops or ropes to prevent tipping during movement.

2. Tank Modification and Functional Integration

   • Opening Cutting: Use an angle grinder to cut a doorway (about 1.2 meters high and 60 cm wide) on the side of the water storage tank and polish the edges smoothly.
   • Stacking Design: Stack two water storage tanks vertically, with the bottom tank serving as the fecal storage area and the top tank cut with an opening as the usage space. Seal the connection between the two tanks with waterproof glue.
   • Drainage and Sanitary Ware: Cut a hole in the internal floor and install a drain pipe leading to the bottom tank. Secure a simple toilet and add a faucet, a washbasin (which can be made from a plastic bottle), and a small showerhead (requiring connection to a water tank).
   • Door Installation: Install a lightweight door (such as a wooden or plastic board) at the doorway and fix it with hinges to ensure smooth opening and closing.

III. Key Components and Precautions

• Fecal Treatment: The simple version usually adopts a storage design and requires regular cleaning of fecal wastewater. If conditions permit, a biodegradation device (such as a composting bin) can be added to reduce odors.
• Ventilation and Lighting: Cut small holes (5-10 cm in diameter) in the walls or roof and install mesh screens to prevent insects while ensuring air circulation.
• Material Selection: Prioritize the use of waterproof and corrosion-resistant materials (such as plastic and metal), and avoid using wood in direct contact with wastewater to prevent decay.
• Safety: All cutting edges need to be polished smoothly, and fasteners (such as screws and ropes) need to be checked regularly to prevent loosening.
