Portable Toilet & Simple Mobile Toilet

Admin September 20, 2026

A portable toilet is a facility that can be moved as a whole, providing temporary or fixed toilet services to the public. Simple mobile toilets can be homemade using materials such as water storage tanks and buckets, offering advantages such as mobility, modularity, and ease of transportation.

Definition and Composition of Portable Toilets

Portable toilets are designed to meet toilet needs in temporary or fixed locations and can be moved as a whole to the target site. Their core structures include fecal sewage storage tanks (or disposal units), floor slabs, sanitary fixtures (such as toilets), walls, handwashing facilities, water tanks, roofs, and mobility devices (such as casters). These components together form a complete toilet unit, ensuring functionality and portability.

Homemade Methods for Simple Mobile Toilets

  1. Water Storage Tank Modification Method
Use a water storage tank as the main body and install casters at the bottom of the拖板 (drag plate, here assumed to be a supporting structure) to achieve mobility. Cut openings in the recycled water storage tank, stack and secure them to form internal space, and cut a rectangular opening as the doorway. Install drainage components, a toilet, a faucet, a sink, and a showerhead inside, and finally install a door. This method utilizes the water storage tank's sealing property to solve the sewage storage problem and is suitable for short-term use scenarios.

  2. Bucket Combination Method
Use a wooden board as the base and install casters. Place cut buckets as sewage containers. Secure the bucket bodies with wooden strips and cut an entrance. Wrap the wooden board around the cut to prevent leakage, extend and heighten it with aluminum-plastic panels, and install a bucket lid. After constructing the main frame, install drainage components, connect a green bucket to a water pipe joint, assemble PVC pipes to make a showerhead, and finally install a toilet and apply sealant. This method has a lower cost but requires attention to material durability.

Classification and Characteristics of Portable Toilets

  1. Structural Forms

    • Single-unit structure: An independent unit suitable for locations with limited space.
    • Composite structure: Multiple units combined, expandable into large public toilets.
  2. Mobility Methods

    • Hoisting/handling type: Relies on mechanical equipment for movement, suitable for repeated use at fixed locations.
    • Powered/trailer type: Equipped with its own power or can be towed, flexibly deployed at temporary event sites.
  3. Sewage Treatment Methods

    • Water-flush and waterless-flush suction types: Depend on a water source or regular suction of waste, offering relatively high cleanliness.
    • Recirculating water-flush type: Reuses water resources through a filtration system, saving water and being environmentally friendly.
    • Dry-packing type: Uses biodegradable bags to collect feces, requiring no water source, suitable for water-scarce areas.

Core Advantages: Portable toilets can be quickly deployed to disaster sites, outdoor events, or construction sites. Their modular design supports flexible combination and reuse, significantly reducing the construction cost and time investment of traditional toilets.
