Portable Toilet Construction Guide
Admin October 08, 2026
You can refer to the following three methods to construct a portable toilet:

Method 1:
- Basic Structure Construction: Split a water storage tank in half with an angle grinder. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board. Use wooden strips and self-tapping screws to increase the height on the upper side of the tank, forming a frame.
- Opening and Door Frame Construction: Create an opening on the side of the water storage tank. Install sponge strips on both sides to form a door frame. Embed plastic soft boards between the wooden strips to create walls, with the upper part of the tank serving as the roof.
- Functional Component Installation:
- Drainage System: Drill a hole at the bottom of the tank to install a drain pipe. Connect a plastic bucket on the side as a water storage device, forming a floor drain and water supply system.
- Bathroom Equipment: Use water pipes to make a bath heater and connect it to a three-way joint and a showerhead. Place the toilet on the drain outlet, secure the water tank, and seal it with glass glue. Extend the inlet pipe of the washbasin from the three-way joint of the outlet pipe to the doorway, connect a hose, and drill a hole for installation.
- Detail Refinement: Paint the wooden strips with waterproof paint to enhance aesthetics. Use foam strips to splice honeycomb wooden boards to make a simple door and secure it.
Method 2:
- Mobile Base Construction: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of a plastic pallet. Place a water storage tank recovered from a garbage station and cut the top to form an open tank.
- Tank Combination and Opening: Stack two open tanks and secure the outer frame with self-tapping screws. Cut a rectangular opening with a height of 180 cm and a width of 50 cm.
- Drainage and Bathroom Installation:
- Drainage System: Drill a hole in the floor of the tank, insert an elbow and a water pipe, and seal the gaps with glue. Align the toilet with the drain outlet and secure it with glue.
- Handwashing Device: Use wall clips to secure the water pipe, install a faucet and a pipe cap, and connect it to the drain pipe outlet. Use a stainless steel basin to make a washbasin and fix it on the pipe cap.
- Functional Expansion: Connect the toilet water tank and the shower hose, install a spray-type showerhead and a toilet seat ring. Use wooden boards and hinges to make a door and install a door handle.
Method 3:
- Material Selection and Basic Setup: Choose a food-grade PE water storage tank (recommended capacity of 100L) and install universal wheels with brakes at the bottom (with a load-bearing capacity of over 50kg).
- Tank Body Functional Treatment: Drill two holes on the side to connect an outlet pipe (equipped with a small faucet) and an overflow pipe to prevent water from overflowing.
- Core Frame Construction: Use PVC pipes to make a 1.2m×0.8m square frame, surround it with waterproof Oxford cloth, and leave a ventilation opening at the top. Place a folding toilet (choose a model with biodegradable plastic bags) and a small washbasin, and connect them to the outlet pipe of the water storage tank.
- Detail Optimization:
- Install a float switch inside the tank to automatically remind you to add water when the water level is low.
- Place anti-slip mats at the bottom to prevent slipping during movement.
- The wastewater can be reused (for flushing the toilet or watering plants).
- When using it in winter, wrap the water storage tank with insulation cotton to prevent the water pipes from freezing.
