Portable Toilet Camping Layout

Admin October 08, 2026

When arranging portable toilets for camping, it is necessary to comprehensively consider six aspects: preliminary planning, site selection, quantity allocation, functional design, supporting facilities, and maintenance management to ensure convenience of use and hygiene safety.

1. Preliminary Planning
It is essential to clarify core requirements with the rental provider in advance: Estimate the foot traffic based on the scale of the camping event and calculate the total number of toilets needed according to the standard of 1-2 toilets per 100 people. Determine the duration of the event; if it exceeds 8 hours (such as music festivals or multi-day camping trips), an additional 20% of backup toilets should be provided to handle peak periods. Confirm the type of venue; grassy areas require reinforced foundations, while hard surfaces need drainage system checks. For example, in Ganzhou, where there is heavy rainfall in summer, measures to prevent water accumulation should be planned in advance.

2. Site Selection Requirements
Toilets should be placed in a conspicuous location within 30 meters of the main activity area to avoid inconvenience due to excessive distance. The site should avoid low-lying and damp areas to prevent rainwater from flooding in. In areas with frequent rainfall like Ganzhou, the foundation should be 30 centimeters above ground level, and a wheelchair access (with a width of no less than 0.9 meters) should be reserved to accommodate accessibility needs.

3. Quantity Allocation
Adjust the allocation standards according to the type of event: For concerts, allocate 10 toilets per 500 people; for exhibitions, allocate 1 toilet per 2000 square meters. If the camping event includes a children's area or elderly groups, an additional accessible toilet should be provided. Before use, conduct a 30-minute trial run, focusing on checking the flushing system, sealing, and ventilation to avoid malfunctions during the event.

4. Functional Design
Prioritize selecting mobile toilets with a sturdy structure and comprehensive functions: The outer shell should be made of galvanized sheet or metal carved panels, with curved transparent windows to enhance lighting and stone wall lights for nighttime illumination. The interior should be well-decorated, with separate areas for men and women; men's toilets should be equipped with urinals, and women's toilets should have customized squatting positions based on demand. A public handwashing area should be set up in the middle, equipped with double-basin bathroom cabinets, beauty mirrors, and sensor-activated faucets. The ventilation system should include exhaust fans or fresh air devices to prevent odor accumulation.

5. Supporting Facilities
The rental provider should provide basic supporting facilities: Anti-slip mats to reduce the risk of slipping, lighting systems (such as solar lights) to ensure safety during nighttime use. In areas with many mosquitoes like Ganzhou, mosquito repellent devices (such as ultrasonic mosquito repellents or electric mosquito coils) should be provided. Red and white directional signs should be placed outside the toilets, ensuring they are visible within 50 meters of the entrance to guide people quickly.

6. Maintenance Management
During the event, dedicated personnel should be arranged for inspections: Replenish toilet paper, hand soap, and trash bags every 2 hours and check if the flushing system is functioning properly. Immediately check the toilet's sealing after heavy rain to prevent leaks. During the rainy season, enhance ventilation to avoid dampness and mold inside. Within 24 hours after the event, complete cleaning and disinfection, focusing on the squatting positions, handwashing basins, and floors to ensure no residual stains or odors remain.
