Plateau Mobile Toilet

Admin September 21, 2026

Plateau mobile toilets need to be designed specifically according to the characteristics of the plateau environment, focusing on five aspects: thermal insulation, ventilation, material selection, water supply and drainage, and structural stability.

1. Thermal Insulation Performance Optimization
The large temperature difference between day and night on the plateau makes it difficult for conventional thermal insulation materials to meet the requirements. Efficient thermal insulation materials such as thickened polyurethane foam boards with low thermal conductivity should be used to effectively reduce heat loss. At the same time, plateau-specific fuel-fired warm air blowers should be equipped to adjust the indoor temperature through an intelligent temperature control system, ensuring suitable usage conditions even in low-temperature environments. For example, in the vacuum toilet renovation project at Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Area, the combination of a double-layer thermal insulation structure and a fuel-fired warm air blower solved the problem of freezing in winter.

2. Ventilation System Enhancement
The plateau has thin oxygen and strong winds and sand, so ventilation design needs to balance air circulation and dust prevention. The area of exhaust vents should be increased (usually by 30%-50%), and the number of air inlets should be increased to form a convection cycle. At the same time, air filtration devices such as primary filter screens and activated carbon composite layers should be equipped to filter more than 90% of PM2.5 particles and reduce dust entering the room. The vacuum toilet project by Zhongheng Yuantai achieved a balance between efficient air exchange and low energy consumption through negative pressure ventilation technology.

3. Application of UV-Resistant Materials
The UV radiation intensity on the plateau is 2-3 times that of the plain areas, so UV-resistant materials should be selected. Plastic sheets should be added with UV stabilizers, and metal sheets should be treated with fluorocarbon spraying to prevent appearance aging (such as fading and cracking) and performance degradation of interior decoration materials. The shell of the microbial toilet is made of UV-resistant polyethylene material, which still maintains more than 90% of its original strength after 5 years of actual testing.

4. Adaptation of Water Supply and Drainage Systems
In a low-pressure environment, the boiling point of water decreases (for example, at an altitude of 4,000 meters, the boiling point is about 87°C). The water tank pressure setting should be adjusted to 0.2-0.3 MPa, and plateau-adapted water heaters should be used to improve the stability of hot water supply through booster pumps. In addition, microbial toilets achieve waterless flushing through biodegradation technology, avoiding the risk of freezing of traditional water tanks in low temperatures and being suitable for use in areas without water sources.

5. Structural Stability Reinforcement
The plateau often experiences strong winds, so stability should be improved through modular design and wind protection measures. The foundation should be poured with reinforced concrete to a depth of more than 1.5 meters; wind protection support devices include stay cables and adjustable ground anchors, which can withstand winds of level 12 or above. The plateau ecological toilet of the Chinese military ensures wind resistance and facilitates transportation and rapid deployment through lightweight modules and foldable bracket designs.

Additional Design Considerations
Transportation and installation convenience are crucial. Modular design (such as a single unit weight of ≤200 kg) can reduce reliance on large machinery and shorten assembly time to within 4 hours. For example, a certain type of microbial toilet adopts a拼装 (assembled) structure, which can be installed on-site by 2 people and is suitable for use in remote areas.
