Pig is Not a Mobile Toilet

Admin September 28, 2026

It is inaccurate to call pigs 'mobile toilets'.

In captive environments, domestic pigs are actually very clean animals. They have the habit of defecating at fixed points and try to separate their sleeping, eating, and defecating areas. This behavior reflects pigs' instinct to distinguish their living environment and clean themselves. This habit of pigs helps to keep their living areas relatively clean and reduce the occurrence of diseases.

However, during the pig-raising process, there are sometimes cases where pigs defecate randomly. This is mainly due to several reasons: First, pigs are relatively lazy in nature and may not be willing to spend extra energy to find a specific defecation spot. Second, the small space of the pigsty enhances pigs' territorial awareness, and they may regard the entire pigsty as their territory and thus defecate randomly. Third, if the sanitary conditions of the pigsty are poor or the excrement is not cleaned up in a timely manner, pigs may lose the motivation to defecate at fixed points due to the bad environment.

To solve the problem of pigs defecating randomly, a series of measures can be taken. First, change the feeding method, such as increasing the space of the pigsty to give pigs more activity areas, thereby reducing the impact of territorial awareness on defecation behavior. Second, establish a toilet area, set up a special defecation area in the pigsty and guide pigs to defecate there. You can attract pigs to defecate in the toilet area by placing bedding or food residues that pigs like. Finally, conduct educational guidance, train pigs to develop the habit of defecating at fixed points through training. This requires patience and continuous efforts, but once successful, it will greatly improve the sanitary level of the pigsty.
