How to Store Outdoor Portable Toilets

Admin October 08, 2026

The storage of outdoor portable toilets should follow standardized procedures to ensure hygiene, safety, and environmental protection. Here are the specific steps:

1. Immediate Handling After Use

After use, the excreta should be sealed immediately. If the toilet is equipped with a dedicated garbage bag or collection bag, the bag opening should be tightly sealed to prevent odor diffusion. If it has a lid design, the lid should be closed promptly to block odors. It is strictly prohibited to expose unsealed excreta to the air to avoid bacterial growth or attracting mosquitoes and flies.

2. Proper Disposal of Excreta

  • Portable Device Disposal: The mainstream method is to use a portable toilet or excreta collection bag. After defecation, add a coagulant or deodorant to solidify the excreta and reduce odors, then seal the bag opening and place it in a dedicated garbage bag for disposal.
  • Biodegradable System Disposal: If using a device with biodegradable functions such as a 'vehicle-mounted packing toilet', microorganisms will decompose the excreta into stable solids and liquids. The liquid should be disposed of according to local regulations (e.g., poured into designated drainage outlets), and the solid part can be collected by a professional agency or disposed of according to the instructions. Regardless of the method, it is strictly prohibited to discharge untreated excreta directly into the natural environment to avoid polluting the soil or water sources.

3. Cleaning and Deodorizing the Device

After removing the sealed waste, the device should be thoroughly cleaned:

  • Use a damp cloth with dish detergent or a dedicated cleaner to wipe the toilet bowl or inner bucket. For stubborn stains, use a cleaner containing decontamination and disinfection ingredients, or a natural combination of baking soda and white vinegar.
  • If the device contains electronic components (such as a flushing device), do not rinse it directly with water. Simply wipe the surface with a damp cloth.
  • To prevent odors, place a small amount of deodorizing gel or disinfectant pad in the inner bucket before each use to reduce bacterial growth.

4. Drying and Inspection

After cleaning, ensure that all key parts (especially the folding joints and around electronic components) are completely dry to prevent bacterial growth or rusting of metal parts. At the same time, regularly check if the folding joints are loose to ensure structural stability and avoid accidents during storage due to damaged parts.

5. Easy Storage

After the device is completely dry, store it according to its type:

  • Folding Toilet: Fold it according to the design and lock the buckles to ensure that all parts fit tightly.
  • Packing Toilet: After folding, place it in a dedicated storage bag to avoid damage from using ordinary plastic bags. Note: When storing, follow the product's weight-bearing limit to avoid damaging the structure or affecting future use due to overloading.
