Folding Methods for Outdoor Portable Toilets
Admin October 09, 2026
The folding methods for outdoor portable toilets vary depending on their types. Here are the folding steps for common types:

I. Small Folding Toilet (Frame Type)
- Preparation and Disassembly
First, confirm the completeness of the components, including lightweight metal/plastic frames, C-shaped toilet seats, and garbage bags. Remove the support legs from the seat connections by rotating them counterclockwise, and then fold the metal or plastic frames into a flat state. Some frames are designed in segments and need to be pressed down segment by segment to the minimum thickness. - Garbage Bag Handling
If the garbage bag has been used, seal the bag opening and store it separately in a leak-proof bag to avoid contaminating other components; unused garbage bags can be folded and placed in a storage bag. - Overall Storage
Place the frame, toilet seat, and garbage bag in the matching storage bag or backpack side pocket in sequence. After folding, the thickness can usually be compressed to less than 10cm, making it easy to carry.
II. Portable Toilet (with Waste Bucket)
- Component Separation
Separate the toilet seat from the waste bucket. If the waste bucket is reusable, empty its contents and rinse it with clean water or a special cleaning agent, then dry it for later use. - Frame Folding
Contract the thickened steel pipe frame to its minimum size: Some models feature an X-shaped cross-frame design, which can be folded in three steps by pressing the top buckles or rotating the joints; for straight-rod frames, contract each section and secure the locks. - Fabric Storage
Wipe off stains on the surface of the Oxford cloth or waterproof inner layer with a damp cloth, dry it, and then fold it in an 'S' shape to wrap around the frame, reducing the risk of bacterial growth.
III. Simple Setup Toilet (Tent + Frame)
- Removal of Shelter
Remove the tent or nylon cloth, and press down the bottom edges with stones to prevent them from being blown away by the wind; if the tent has a detachable structure, separate the top cloth from the frame. - Frame Disassembly
Remove the four load-bearing pipes or wooden sticks from the C-shaped toilet seat legs by rotating them counterclockwise, and store them separately in special cloth bags; if the frame is connected by elastic ropes, untie the knots before folding. - Garbage Bag Cleanup
Seal the excrement collection bag and label it with 'Biological Waste'. Take it away for disposal or bury it in a designated pit (with a depth of at least 30cm) according to local environmental protection requirements to ensure environmental cleanliness.
Precautions:
- Location Selection and Hygiene: Choose a concealed, flat location far from water sources when setting up. Properly dispose of garbage bags after use to avoid polluting the natural environment.
- Component Drying: Before folding, check that all components are completely dry. Wipe off moisture from metal frames to prevent mildew, and avoid exposing plastic components to direct sunlight to prevent aging.
- Load-Bearing Adaptation: For car camping, choose a large folding toilet (with a load-bearing capacity of up to 150 kilograms); for hiking scenarios, it is advisable to prioritize lightweight frame-type toilets (usually weighing less than or equal to 3kg).
