Outdoor Container House Design
Admin September 15, 2026
Outdoor container houses come in a rich variety of designs and can be customized according to different needs and scenarios. The following introduces them from three aspects: common types, design features, and practical application cases:

Common Types
- Standard Container Type: Based on traditional containers, it retains their cuboid shape. Through reasonable spatial planning and interior decoration, it creates a fully functional living or working space. This design is simple and elegant, easy to transport and install, and suitable for various temporary or permanent construction projects.
- Folding Type: Improved upon the standard container, it adopts a foldable design. During transportation, the house can be folded up to reduce volume and lower transportation costs. Upon arrival at the destination, it can be unfolded and fixed for quick use.
- Irregular Container Type: Breaking away from the traditional cuboid shape of containers, it is designed in various unique shapes according to actual needs, such as arcs, triangles, and polygons. This design is more creative and personalized, meeting the aesthetic needs of different scenarios.
Design Features
- Modular Design: Many outdoor container houses adopt a modular design concept, dividing the house into different functional modules, such as bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms. These modules can be prefabricated in the factory and then transported to the site for quick assembly, greatly shortening the construction period.
- Flexible Combination: Container houses can be flexibly combined according to needs. By splicing multiple containers, larger building spaces can be created to meet different scales of usage requirements.
- Attention to Detail: Some container houses pay attention to detail in design, such as adopting rounded corner designs to avoid personnel bumping; setting up large floor-to-ceiling windows to increase indoor lighting and ventilation effects.
Practical Application Cases
- Community Post Station: For example, the 'Rong·Gubei Post Station' in Changning District, Shanghai, uses containers as the main building structure, integrating the warm yellow elements of ginkgo leaves with the container house. Both side walls can be fully opened, turning it into a three-sided open box suitable for various interactive activities.
- Residential Houses: A household in a small town in Jiangsu built a house on the original foundation using containers, equipped with insulation layers, reasonably planned interiors, and air conditioning for comfortable living. A Danish guy transformed a family-style residence using 9 containers, decorating various parts of the house, designing large windows to provide natural light, and retaining the unique corrugated metal interior walls and ceilings of the containers.
