Transforming Old Household Items into Portable Toilets

Admin September 28, 2026

Old household items can be transformed into portable toilets using discarded plastic buckets or old chairs. Here are the specific methods:

Transformation Using Discarded Plastic Buckets

Materials Preparation: You will need an ordinary plastic bucket, universal wheels, wooden strips, aluminum sheets, a door panel, butt hinges, elbows, floor drains, threaded reducers, three-way straight pipe elbows, valve switches, shower head clips, and a toilet tank, among others. Transformation Steps:

  • Install the Mobile Device: Install four universal wheels at the corners of the wooden board, secure them with wooden strips, cut out notches to form a door frame, insert aluminum sheets to increase the height, cover the top with the cut neck of the bucket, and paint the inner walls with white cement for beautification, providing a mobile base and basic framework for the portable toilet.
  • Make the Door Panel: Create a door panel of the appropriate size and fix it to the frame with butt hinges to ensure the door can open and close normally, ensuring privacy during use.
  • Install the Drainage Device: Drill holes at the bottom of the bucket, install elbows and floor drains, connect the plastic bucket to the threaded reducer, assemble the three-way straight pipe elbows to form a square-shaped pipeline, add valve switches and shower head clips to enable the drainage and flushing of sewage.
  • Assemble the Water Tank: Assemble the toilet tank and seal its edges, connect the drainage pipe to the septic tank to ensure the normal operation of the flushing system and the proper treatment of sewage.

Transformation Using Old Chairs

Materials Preparation: An old chair, a bucket, a toilet seat cover, and drilling tools, among others. Transformation Steps:

  • Determine the Position: Place the bucket on the chair and mark it so that the chair can be accurately cut to fit the bucket later.
  • Cut the Chair: Cut the chair according to the marks so that the bucket can fit snugly inside the chair, providing stable support for the bucket.
  • Install the Toilet Seat Cover: Drill holes in the chair and install the toilet seat cover. A simple portable toilet is now complete. This method is simple to operate and suitable for situations where the functionality requirements for the portable toilet are not high and quick construction is desired.
