How to Prevent Freezing of Mobile Toilets in Northeast China

Admin October 06, 2026

Preventing freezing of mobile toilets in Northeast China requires a comprehensive approach involving basic insulation, pipe freeze prevention, active heating systems, and auxiliary measures. The specific methods are as follows:

Basic Insulation

Adopt a double-layer wall structure with an outer layer of color-coated steel plate, an inner layer of fireproof board, and a 5cm layer of polyurethane foam or rock wool insulation in between, forming an efficient thermal insulation barrier. Install EPDM rubber sealing strips on doors and windows, and upgrade ventilation openings to temperature-controlled louver devices to reduce cold air infiltration. Special treatment is required for the drainage system: fill the trap of the squat toilet with expanded perlite, and wrap the drainage pipes with a 50mm thick insulation layer to prevent residual water in the pipes from freezing.

Pipe Freeze Prevention

  • Electric Tracing System: Use self-regulating heating cables (8W/M power) wrapped around the pipes, equipped with an intelligent temperature control box that automatically activates when the temperature drops below 5℃. An aluminum foil heat conduction layer ensures that a total power of 75W can maintain a pipe surface temperature of ≥5℃ in an environment of -15℃. Cover the pipelines with rubber insulating sleeves, and apply double-layer insulation materials to key nodes such as valves.
  • Physical Wrapping: Wrap exposed water pipes and faucets outdoors tightly with cotton and linen fabrics, foam plastic, or old clothing, with special protection at the joints, and add a waterproof plastic sheet on the outer layer for moisture resistance.
  • Water Flow Freeze Prevention: When the temperature drops below 0℃, turn the faucet to a thin stream (like a thread) at night to keep the water flowing inside the pipes. Collect the dripping water in a container for reuse. When not in use for a long time, close the main valve and drain the water from the pipes.

Active Heating Systems

  • Electric Heating Solution: Install PTC ceramic heating plates on the walls of the toilet area, which can raise the temperature by 15℃ in 5 minutes, with the surface temperature controlled below 60℃ for both safety and energy efficiency. The air conditioning system is equipped with a temperature sensor for automatic constant temperature control.
  • Fuel-Fired Hot Air System: In extreme climates (e.g., below -20℃), activate a 30,000kcal/h fuel-fired hot air blower, which evenly distributes hot air through ducts, raising the temperature of a 5㎡ space by 15℃ within 30 minutes.
  • Municipal Heat Source Utilization: Scenic spots with conditions can connect to the centralized heating system and use radiators for continuous and stable heating.

Other Auxiliary Measures

  • Install low-power ceramic heaters or fuel-fired warm air blowers in the toilet compartments, which can be turned on during user occupancy or preset time periods to maintain the temperature above freezing point.
  • Use freeze-resistant toilets made of low-temperature-resistant plastic materials, with the fecal storage tank designed with a sloped bottom and a reinforced drainage valve to prevent residual substances from freezing and clogging.
  • Add special environmentally friendly antifreeze to the flush water tank to replace part of the water and lower the freezing point.
  • During extreme cold periods when the toilet is not in use, completely drain the liquid from the pipelines and water tank. For short-term events, choose waterless flushing pack toilets to avoid water freezing issues.
