Modular Villa | Flexible Smart Living Space
This is a home and company made of four combined shipping containers. Container spaces are flexible and sturdy—fitting the spirit of entrepreneurs—yet they are dark, poorly insulated, drafty, and not soundproof. Trading time for space, we reorganized the four containers by taking advantage of how easily containers can be transformed.
Innovatively integrating living and work as one, the same space evolves into different functional activities depending on the time of day. Home x office x gathering in one—matching the lifestyle of entrepreneur owners.
In living mode, the house has a double-height living room. Fold-down beds form bedroom spaces, a complete and practical kitchen and dining area, and a tatami space for children to play.
In office mode, all functions of the building space are reset. Hidden desks can be pulled out as reception tables. Folding floors can add an entire extra meeting room on the upper level. By stowing the fold-down beds, you get a brand-new office. The bathroom becomes a brainstorming space. Walls that flip outward form an outdoor gathering place.
At weekend gatherings with friends, open the walls and pull out the box modules for a barbecue party with good friends. At the same time, a fold-down bed panel hidden in the living room provides multi-person sleeping for guests.
Through a new industrialized approach, components can be prefabricated in the factory and sent to the site. In the future, all different possibilities may remain open. We can use industry solutions to bring all components to the site for construction.
