Our company is building personalized homes on Roatan Island. The designs respond clearly to the island's climate, terrain, and culture from both ecological and social perspectives.
The overall design draws on historical wisdom, combining local vernacular timber structures, climate suitability, and spatial experience with new digital design, engineering, and construction technologies. A thorough understanding of local supply chains, logistics, and construction methods promotes the use of local materials, crafts, and manufacturing facilities to accelerate regional economic development.
The modular system that forms the primary structural element is based on the use of sustainable timber. The wood is sourced from certified forests on the nearby Honduran mainland and processed locally. Digital information technology helps maximize the use of every part of sustainable forest logs, reducing waste and pollution. This process also helps reduce the project's embodied building energy and carbon footprint.
Rapidly assembled on-site "kits of parts" are designed so that local craftspeople, merchants, and construction teams can also benefit from the knowledge and experience gained through new technologies. Building lasting relationships between homeowners and local communities helps new residents integrate into local culture. All suppliers receive full support to develop corresponding product lines based on 3D digital information models of the homes and terrain.
Owners can use the platform to customize the spatial layout of their homes to match their preferred number of voxels. With at least 15,000 different versions available, owners can configure up to five voxels. The configuration platform allows every home to adapt to the terrain, secure the best views, and minimize earthworks during assembly.
