Modular Container House Processing

Admin September 17, 2026

Modular container house processing is a construction processing method that uses containers or steel structures as frameworks, integrates energy-saving materials, prefabricates building units in factories, and allows for flexible combination and application. Details are as follows:

Basic Units and Structures: Using containers or steel structures as the core frameworks, new energy-saving building materials are integrated to manufacture building units on assembly lines. For example, the elegant Mofang Space adopts commonly used materials such as metal, steel structures, insulation materials, and decoration materials for its unit modules. It supports customized designs in standard sizes ranging from 20 to 60 feet, with a wall thickness of 150mm and a length of 12m. It can comply with Australian, American, and Chinese standards, among others, with specifications covering 20'/40'/special sizes to meet the needs of different scenarios.

Processing Characteristics:

  • Factory Prefabrication: Complete living units, including walls, floors, ceilings, pipelines, and even bathrooms, are manufactured in factories. For example, the modular buildings at Dongguan Humen Port have walls, floors, ceilings, pipelines, and bathrooms fully integrated upon leaving the factory, requiring only transportation to the construction site for assembly before they can be put into use.
  • Modular Design: Building units can be used individually or combined to form single-story, multi-story, or high-rise comprehensive buildings, such as schools, hospitals, hotels, and residential buildings, adapting to diverse functional requirements.
  • Efficiency and Flexibility: The assembly cycle is significantly shortened. Taking the Papua New Guinea MRDC modular hotel project as an example, the complete delivery cycle for traditional construction requires 14 to 18 months, while the modular solution, integrating domestic production, ocean shipping, and on-site assembly, takes only about 7 months in total.
  • Green and Environmentally Friendly: Lightweight steel structure modules reduce the consumption of foundation and main structural materials, lowering material usage by 60-70%. Standardized CNC cutting in factories reduces building material waste from 8%-12% on traditional construction sites to 3%-5%, significantly reducing resource waste.

Development History: In 1987, Phillip C. Clark first proposed a modification patent; in 2006, American architect Peter DeMaria designed the first double-story container house certified by the state; in 2008, CIMC quickly built a container school capable of accommodating a thousand people after the Wenchuan earthquake; in 2010, China initiated the compilation of the Technical Specification for Modular Combined Container Houses; in 2012, CIMC built the world's first recyclable container hotel for the UK, promoting industry standardization and sustainable development.

Application Areas: Widely used in residential, office, emergency, tourism and vacation, public commercial, construction site camps, resettlement, energy and mining camps, municipal temporary housing, large-scale events, and temporary housing for various commercial activities, combining functionality and economy.
