Mobile Transparent Toilet

Admin October 09, 2026

A mobile transparent toilet is a panoramic open toilet constructed with fully transparent glass, movable, and designed to leverage people's sense of shame to encourage users to maintain hygiene. The following provides an introduction from aspects such as development history, domestic and international practical cases, and privacy protection measures:

Development History

Since the early 21st century, transparent toilets have gradually emerged in various places around the world, and mobile transparent toilets have also been practiced as one of the forms. The appearance of such toilets has broken the traditional impression of toilets being closed and concealed, entering the public eye in a relatively novel way.

Domestic and International Practical Cases

  • Domestic: In 2004, a bar in Nanjing installed a transparent toilet that allowed one-way visibility from the inside. This design not only met the users' certain demand for privacy but also had a unique visual effect. In February 2015, China's first five-star transparent toilet opened in Guilin, Guangxi. Subsequently, transparent toilets also appeared in Wuhan, Jianyang, Taiyuan, Hangzhou, and other places. However, some transparent toilets have prompted rectification due to public concerns about privacy, such as taking measures like applying frosted paper or frosted film to enhance privacy protection.
  • International: The transparent toilets in London use special glass to achieve an effect where they are invisible from the outside, ensuring user privacy while giving the toilets a certain sense of transparency. Some transparent toilets in Shibuya, Tokyo, automatically turn frosted when locked. This intelligent design can adjust the transparency in a timely manner according to the usage status of the toilet, effectively protecting user privacy.

Privacy Protection Measures

Due to the particularity of transparent toilets, privacy protection is a key consideration in their design and usage process. As can be seen from the above cases, common privacy protection measures include using one-way vision glass, special glass, and smart color-changing glass. One-way vision glass allows users to see the outside from the inside while preventing the outside from seeing the inside; special glass may have special optical properties that make it difficult for the outside to see the inside clearly; smart color-changing glass can automatically change its transparency according to the usage status of the toilet, such as a signal like the door being locked, thus protecting user privacy.
