Mobile Toilets in Tourist Attractions
Mobile toilets in tourist attractions are facilities designed to meet the restroom needs of visitors, featuring mobility, environmental friendliness, and harmony with the landscape.

I. Basic Definition and Functions Mobile toilets in tourist attractions are temporary or semi-permanent facilities designed to address the restroom needs of tourists. Their core advantage lies in mobility, allowing flexible relocation based on visitor traffic or event demands. Additionally, their design emphasizes harmony with the natural or cultural landscapes of the attractions, with common forms including log cabin-style and antique-style structures that meet functional requirements while blending into the environment without appearing out of place.
II. Structure and Classification
- Structural Components: Mobile toilets typically consist of modules such as fecal and wastewater storage tanks (or disposal units), flooring, sanitary fixtures, walls, washing facilities, water tanks, roofs, and mobility devices. Some high-end models are also equipped with thermal insulation materials (e.g., metal carved panels), odor monitoring systems, or electronic navigation functions to enhance the user experience.
- Classification Methods:
- By structural form: Divided into single-unit structures (independent units) and composite structures (multi-unit combinations).
- By mobility method: Includes lifting/handling types (requiring mechanical assistance) and powered/trailer types (capable of self-movement or being towed by vehicles).
- By wastewater treatment method: Divided into flush types (requiring a water connection), waterless suction types (relying on vacuum suction), recirculating flush types (water recycling), and dry packing types (sealed fecal collection without flushing).
III. Environmental Technologies and Innovations Mobile toilets widely adopt environmental technologies such as waterless flushing and microbial degradation to reduce water consumption and pollution. For example, dry packing toilets collect feces in sealed bags, making them suitable for water-scarce areas; microbial degradation toilets use bacterial colonies to break down organic matter, achieving ecological friendliness. Furthermore, in national outstanding cases from 2024, some toilets have introduced smart management systems with functions such as odor monitoring and visitor traffic statistics to improve management efficiency.
IV. Policy Support and Development China launched the "Toilet Revolution" in 2015, promoting the construction of tourist toilets in stages. By the end of 2019, over 100,000 tourist toilets had been newly built or renovated nationwide, with mobile toilets serving as an important supplement due to their flexibility and efficiency. Driven by policies, mobile toilet technologies have continuously upgraded, giving rise to representative products such as high-end models from Xingtai Lianchen Stainless Steel Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and four-squat-pointed-roof toilets from Dezhou Hongtu Metal Products Co., Ltd., meeting diverse needs.
