Mobile Toilet with Septic Tank

Admin October 10, 2026

A mobile toilet with a septic tank is a sanitation solution designed for scenarios without fixed sewage disposal facilities. Its core is to achieve the collection and preliminary treatment of excrement through its built-in septic tank, combining portability and environmental friendliness.

Material and Capacity Design of the Septic Tank

The septic tank is usually made of corrosion-resistant materials, such as polyethylene plastic or fiberglass-reinforced plastic, to ensure it is not easily damaged during long-term contact with excrement. Its capacity is flexibly designed according to the usage scenario and the number of people, ranging from several hundred liters to several thousand liters. For example, the capacity of the septic tank in a small mobile toilet may be 300-500 liters, suitable for temporary events or use by a small number of people; while the capacity of the septic tank in a mobile toilet in large public places can reach over 2000 liters, meeting the needs of high-frequency use.

Basic Structure and Functions of the Septic Tank

  1. Excrement storage tank: As the core component, it is responsible for directly collecting excrement. Its interior is usually designed as a smooth curved surface to reduce residue and facilitate cleaning.
  2. Excrement inlet: Connected to the toilet fixture (such as a foot-operated squat toilet), excrement falls directly into the tank by gravity, avoiding the risk of pipe blockage.
  3. Exhaust system: It discharges the gas inside the tank through ventilation pipes at the top or sides to prevent odor accumulation or excessive pressure. Some designs add an activated carbon filter layer to further purify the gas.
  4. Decomposition mechanism: After entering the excrement storage tank, the solid part of the excrement settles to the bottom of the tank, and the liquid part floats on the upper layer. Under the action of microorganisms, organic matter gradually decomposes, reducing volume and pollution.

Portability and Sealing Design

To meet the needs of mobility, the tank body of the septic tank usually adopts a lightweight but high-strength structure, such as polyethylene plastic formed by injection molding in one piece. The tank wall is thickened and reinforced with ribs to prevent damage during handling. The interface adopts a double-sealing design:

  • Sealing ring: Rubber sealing rings are used at the connections of the excrement inlet, exhaust outlet, etc., to ensure no leakage;
  • Threaded connection: The tank body is fastened to components such as the toilet fixture and exhaust pipes through threads to enhance sealing.

In addition, the septic tank of some mobile toilets is designed to be detachable, facilitating regular cleaning or replacement and further improving the flexibility of use. These designs collectively ensure the hygiene and safety of mobile toilets under conditions without access to water and electricity.
