Water and Electricity Costs of Mobile Toilets
The water and electricity costs of mobile toilets vary significantly depending on their type and usage, and can be broadly categorized into the following three types:

1. Water-saving mobile public toilets (e.g., foam-sealing type)
These toilets reduce water consumption through foam-sealing technology, resulting in lower water and electricity costs. Their monthly electricity consumption is usually ≤2 kWh. Based on the average residential electricity price (approximately 0.6 yuan/kWh), the annual electricity cost is about 20 yuan. In terms of water usage, foam-sealing technology requires only a small amount of water for foam generation, making the annual water cost negligible. These toilets are suitable for scenarios where water is readily available and cost-sensitivity is a concern, such as temporary events and scenic spots.
2. Water-flushing mobile public toilets
Water-flushing toilets rely on a continuous flow of water for cleaning, resulting in higher water and electricity costs. Taking an average daily usage of 100 people as an example, the annual water consumption is approximately 100-150 tons (estimated at 0.03-0.05 tons per person). Based on the average commercial water price (approximately 5 yuan/ton), the annual water cost is about 3000-5000 yuan. In terms of electricity, the water-flushing system requires a pump to operate, with a monthly electricity consumption of about 10-20 kWh, resulting in an annual electricity cost of about 100-200 yuan. These toilets are suitable for areas with high foot traffic and sufficient water and electricity supply, such as city squares and transportation hubs.
3. Waterless ecological mobile toilets
For arid regions or scenarios with scarce water and electricity resources, waterless toilets utilize technologies such as microbial decomposition and packaged collection to achieve zero water usage, requiring only a small amount of electricity to power ventilation or control systems. Their water and electricity costs can be reduced by more than 90% compared to traditional water-flushing toilets, with an annual electricity cost of about 10-50 yuan and almost zero water cost. These toilets are suitable for extreme environments such as deserts and plateaus, or scenarios without infrastructure such as temporary construction sites and field operations.
Cost Optimization Recommendations:
- Prioritize waterless toilets in arid regions to significantly reduce operational costs;
- Choose water-saving toilets in low-foot-traffic scenarios (e.g., remote scenic spots) to balance cost and user experience;
- Regularly maintain the plumbing of water-flushing toilets to avoid hidden costs caused by water leakage.
