Unisex Design of Mobile Toilets
There are unisex design types for mobile toilets.

I. Typical Design of Unisex Mobile Toilets Some mobile toilets adopt a "gender-neutral toilet stall" design, such as the "tide toilet". Its core principle is to set up a certain number of unisex stalls and equip them with movable signs or lockable sliding doors. In scenarios like tourist attractions, the system can dynamically adjust the usage rights of the stalls based on real-time pedestrian traffic. When there is a surge in women's toilet needs, some of the unisex stalls can be temporarily converted into women-only stalls, and vice versa. This design alleviates the problem of women's difficulty in finding toilets in a cost-effective and efficient manner by flexibly allocating resources, and is particularly suitable for public places with large fluctuations in pedestrian traffic.
II. Common Types of Gender-Segregated Mobile Toilets Despite the existence of unisex designs, a large number of mobile toilets still adopt a clear gender-segregation model. For example, the Apple Pod mobile toilets customized for a tourist attraction in Anhui have 20 squatting stalls in the men's area, while the number of squatting stalls in the women's area is not explicitly mentioned, but gender segregation is achieved through physical isolation. Such designs ensure privacy through independent spaces and are suitable for scenarios with high privacy requirements or relatively stable pedestrian traffic. In addition, some Apple Pod-shaped mobile toilets adopt a minimalist gender-segregation model with "one squatting stall each for men and women". Although they are small in scale, they still maintain gender segregation.
III. Basis for Design Selection The gender design of mobile toilets needs to comprehensively consider usage scenarios, pedestrian traffic characteristics, and cost-effectiveness. Unisex stalls are more suitable for short-term events and temporary exhibitions, with the advantage of dynamic resource allocation. Gender-segregated designs are more suitable for long-term fixed places, such as tourist attractions and parks, reducing management costs through clear signs and independent spaces. Some high-end mobile toilets also combine the advantages of both, for example, setting up a small number of unisex stalls as emergency supplements while retaining the main gender-segregated stalls to meet basic needs.
IV. Technical Implementation and Privacy Protection The key technologies for unisex stalls lie in the sign system and door lock design. Movable signs need to have a quick-switching function, such as achieving instant replacement of gender signs through magnetic attraction or sliding rails. Lockable sliding doors need to adopt anti-misoperation structures, such as electronic locks or mechanical bolts, to ensure privacy and safety during use. Some designs also add soundproof materials or ventilation systems to further optimize the user experience.
