Cleaning a Phone That Fell into a Mobile Toilet

Admin September 21, 2026

Exercise caution when cleaning a phone that fell into a mobile toilet. Follow these steps:

I. Retrieval and Initial Cleaning

  1. Prompt Retrieval: As soon as you notice your phone has fallen into a mobile toilet, retrieve it as quickly as possible using a tool (such as long-handled tongs) or directly with your hands (make sure to wash your hands thoroughly afterward) to prevent damage to internal components from prolonged immersion.
  2. Surface Wiping: Use a dry cloth or tissue to initially clean dirt from the phone's surface. Then, repeatedly wipe it with a damp cloth until there are no visible stains. For stubborn stains, rinse the cloth and repeat the process, but avoid allowing water to seep into the phone's interior.

II. Water Removal

Place the phone in a bag of dry rice to absorb internal moisture using rice's hygroscopic properties. It is recommended to leave it for 24-36 hours or even longer. If the ambient humidity is high, extend the time to 48 hours and regularly check the phone's status.

III. Disinfection

  1. Alcohol Disinfection:
    • Use 75% alcohol cotton balls or wipes to clean the exterior, screen, and other parts, taking care to avoid gaps such as the charging port and headphone jack to prevent alcohol from seeping in.
    • If the phone has been disassembled (requires professional operation), use 95% alcohol to clean internal components, then dry them with a hairdryer on low heat.
    • Note: Alcohol may corrode some coatings, so use it with caution.
  2. UV Disinfection:
    • Place the phone under a UV disinfection lamp for 15-30 minutes, ensuring even coverage of the light while avoiding direct exposure to eyes or skin.
    • Confirm that the phone's material (such as plastic) is UV-resistant to prevent aging.
  3. Specialized Equipment:
    • Consult a service counter at a business hall or shopping mall to use specialized phone disinfection equipment (such as an ozone disinfection cabinet) for comprehensive treatment.

IV. Odor Removal

  1. Perfume Masking:
    • Spray perfume on a clean cloth and evenly wipe the phone's surface, focusing on gaps and edges, then dry it with a tissue.
    • Note: Perfume only masks odors. If dirt remains inside, disassembly and cleaning are required (recommended to be done by a professional).
  2. Other Methods:
    • Wipe with diluted toilet cleaner, then spray perfume and replace the phone case and screen protector. Seal the phone and leave it for several days.
    • If the phone has been exposed to urine, clean internal metal components with alcohol to prevent rusting.

V. Precautions

  • Prioritize Repair for Functional Abnormalities: If the phone cannot be turned on or the screen is abnormal, immediately take it to a repair shop to prevent corrosion of internal components.
  • Prohibit the Use of Conductive Liquids: For internal cleaning, only use volatile alcohol. Do not use water or other liquids to prevent short circuits.
  • Professional Disassembly: If disassembly and cleaning are required, have it done by a professional to avoid damaging precision components.
