Mobile Toilet Outdoor Winter Use

Admin September 23, 2026

When using mobile toilets outdoors in winter, comprehensive anti-freezing measures through design optimization, equipment configuration, and daily maintenance are required to ensure normal operation and extend service life. The specific measures are as follows:

I. Design Optimization and Equipment Configuration

  1. Insulation Structure
The outer walls of the mobile toilet are made of double-layer insulation materials, equipped with a thermal insulation outer shielding system, and the roof uses polyurethane foam spray insulation to avoid cold bridge effects. Some models have metal decorative panels added to the outer walls to further enhance thermal insulation performance.
  2. Pipe Anti-freezing System
Pipes and fittings use special rubber insulation sleeves and self-regulating heating cables to ensure no freezing at low temperatures. The area around the squat toilet is filled with expanded perlite, and heat tracing cables are installed in the trap; in North China, it is recommended to install heat tracing tapes that automatically activate when the temperature drops below -5°C.
  3. Heating and Temperature Control Devices
Equipped with air conditioners or intelligent heating devices to automatically maintain indoor temperature; in extremely cold regions in the north, explosion-proof electric heaters can be selected, with the surface temperature controlled below 60°C.
  4. Exhaust and Heating Systems
A centralized exhaust device is set up to prevent cold air from flowing back, and radiators are installed indoors and can be connected to the municipal heating system to provide a stable heat source.

II. Daily Maintenance Measures

  1. Sealing Inspection
Ensure that doors and windows are airtight, and add windproof strips or thick door curtains if necessary; for toilets that are not completely enclosed, use straw or old quilts for insulation.
  2. Pipe Insulation Treatment
Wrap pipes with 3cm thick rubber-plastic insulation cotton and wrap with waterproof tape; wrap the toilet and water inlet pipes with old quilt fluff or cotton clothes and cover with plastic cloth.
  3. Drain Remaining Water
Close the water inlet valve, unscrew the drain bolt to drain the remaining water, and use a sponge or suction pump to suck out the water in the toilet trap to prevent freezing and cracking.
  4. Use of Antifreeze
Pour antifreeze into the water tank or mix alcohol or salt into the water to lower the freezing point.
  5. Thawing Methods
When pipes are frozen, rinse slowly with warm water below 40°C or use a calcium chloride solution thawing agent; when the toilet is frozen, close the water inlet valve and rinse with warm water (1-45°C). Do not use boiling water.

III. Cleaning and Component Maintenance

  1. Cleaning Management
Keep the cleaning water at 20-30°C and add anti-freezing cleaning agents; deal with the floor immediately after cleaning, and sprinkle magnesium chloride-based de-icing agents if necessary; clean at least twice a day in low-temperature environments, focusing on the toilet and floor drain.
  2. Ventilation and Humidity Control
Open windows for ventilation from 10:00 to 14:00 daily, with each session not exceeding 15 minutes; maintain indoor humidity at 40%-60%, which can be adjusted by hanging wet towels or using a small humidifier.
  3. Metal Component Maintenance
Apply silicone-based anti-freezing lubricant to metal components such as door locks and hinges every week.
  4. Extreme Weather Handling
When the temperature drops below -20°C, suspend use and drain the water storage tank.
