Mobile Toilet Out of Service

Admin September 21, 2026

The main reasons for mobile toilets being out of service include unreasonable sign design, substandard sewage discharge and incomplete supporting facilities, long-term disuse and damage, as well as water and power outages and accidents, etc..

Out-of-service due to unreasonable sign design and rectification: Some mobile toilets have sign design issues. For example, the "Tidal Toilet" in a scenic spot in Huizhou, Guangdong, has male and female signs at its entrance that can be manually toggled. This design has raised concerns among the public about the possibility of "going to the wrong place" and privacy breaches. To eliminate these risks, the scenic spot promptly carried out rectification work, removing all the toggleable signs and planning to switch the functions of the toilet areas by changing the doorplates to prevent the signs from being arbitrarily altered. During this period, the mobile toilet may be out of service for rectification purposes.

Not open due to substandard sewage discharge and incomplete supporting facilities: Some newly built high-standard mobile toilets, such as the public toilet in Area B of Shenzhen Central Park, may not have been handed over for use due to substandard sewage discharge or incomplete supporting facilities. For instance, this public toilet needs to upgrade its sewage pipeline network in sync with the park's landscape improvement project. It will only be open to the public after the pipeline network renovation and landscape project are completed, and the public toilet has been equipped with complete facilities and handed over. Before that, the mobile toilet will be out of service.

Scrapped due to long-term disuse and damage: Some mobile toilets have been severely damaged due to long-term disuse and lack of maintenance. For example, the mobile public toilet on the square of the Tieshan Sub-district Convenience Service Center in the West Coast New Area has been idle for many years and is damaged. The sub-district finally arranged for personnel to remove and dismantle it for scrapping and also removed the public toilet sign. In this case, the mobile toilet naturally cannot continue to be used.

Out of service due to water and power outages and accidents: Mobile toilets may also be out of service due to water and power outages or accidents. For example, the mobile public toilet in the parking lot on the northeast side of Qianmen Street in Beijing has been out of service for some time due to water and power outages and then suddenly caught fire, causing severe damage and rendering it unable to continue to be used.
