Mobile Toilet Odor Removal
Admin September 21, 2026
Odor removal in mobile toilets can be achieved through physical, chemical, biological, and integrated odor control methods, as detailed below:

Physical Odor Control Methods
- Ventilation: Install exhaust fans or natural ventilation systems to expel stale air from the toilet and introduce fresh air. It is recommended to have at least 10 air changes per hour to effectively reduce odor concentration.
- Activated Carbon Adsorption: Use high-iodine-value (≥1000mg/g) activated carbon, whose microporous structure efficiently adsorbs odor molecules such as hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. Place 1 - 2 kg of activated carbon per cubic meter of space and replace it monthly to maintain adsorption effectiveness.
Chemical Odor Control Methods
- Oxidizing Deodorizers: Solutions like chlorine dioxide (ClO₂), with a recommended concentration of 0.1 - 0.3 ppm, can oxidize and decompose mercaptans and amines. Spray every 4 hours to effectively remove odors.
- Masking Deodorizers: Plant essential oil formulations containing limonene or citronellol mask odors through fragrance molecules, suitable for temporary event venues with a duration of about 2 - 3 hours.
- Deodorizer Spraying: Use specialized deodorizers, such as plant extract deodorizers or chemically synthesized deodorizers, which react chemically with odor molecules to neutralize or mask odors. Regularly spray the interior of mobile toilets to quickly eliminate noticeable odors.
- Acid-Base Neutralization: Utilize acidic or alkaline substances to neutralize alkaline or acidic odor components produced in the toilet. For example, for alkaline odors like ammonia, use an appropriate amount of acidic substances for neutralization and deodorization.
Biological Odor Control Methods
- Composite Microbial Agents: Agents containing Bacillus subtilis (≥1×10⁸ CFU/g) and nitrifying bacteria can decompose urea in urine and proteins in feces. It is recommended to add 50g of the agent per 10 liters of excreta, achieving a decomposition efficiency of over 90%.
- Microbial Deodorization: Introduce specific microbial communities to decompose organic matter in the toilet, such as nitrogen- and sulfur-containing compounds in feces and urine, converting them into harmless substances to achieve deodorization. This method is environmentally friendly and has a long-lasting deodorization effect.
- Plant Deodorization: Plant odor-absorbing plants such as mint, lavender, and spider plants around the mobile toilet. The scents emitted by these plants can partially mask odors, and some plants can also absorb harmful gases.
Integrated Odor Control Methods
- Three-Stage Treatment System: Primary physical filtration (PP cotton + activated carbon) + intermediate chemical oxidation (UV photocatalysis) + end-stage biological degradation, with an overall odor removal efficiency of ≥95%.
- Intelligent Control System: Link an ammonia sensor (detection range 0 - 100 ppm) with a spray device. When the concentration exceeds 20 ppm, the deodorization program is automatically triggered.
