Insulation Cotton for Mobile Toilets

Admin September 24, 2026

The commonly used insulation cotton materials for mobile toilets include rock wool and glass wool. Through their low thermal conductivity and multi-layer structural design, they effectively maintain a stable internal temperature, making them suitable for extreme low-temperature environments.

Application and Characteristics of Rock Wool Insulation Layer

Rock wool is one of the widely used materials in the insulation design of mobile toilets. It is typically filled at a thickness of 5 cm between the outer color-coated steel plate and the inner fire-resistant board, forming a composite structure. Its core advantage lies in its extremely low thermal conductivity (0.024 W/(m·K)), which is only one-third of that of traditional materials, significantly reducing heat transfer through the walls. For example, in cold regions, the rock wool layer can effectively block the invasion of external low temperatures while preventing the loss of internal heat, reducing the temperature fluctuation range inside the toilet by more than 60%. In addition, rock wool has Class A fire resistance. Even when exposed to open flames, it will not burn or release toxic gases, meeting the safety standards for public facilities. Some high-end models further enhance the thermal insulation effect by increasing the rock wool density (e.g., 120 kg/m³), making them suitable for extremely cold environments below -30°C.

Multi-layer Structure and Extreme Environment Adaptability of Glass Wool

Glass wool is often combined with metal carved panels and fire-resistant boards to construct a multi-layer insulation system. Its fibrous structure forms countless tiny air pockets, further reducing heat conduction efficiency, with a thermal conductivity as low as 0.032 W/(m·K). In extremely cold regions with temperatures ranging from -40°C to -50°C, the glass wool layer needs to be used in conjunction with an electric tracing system: when the sensor detects that the internal temperature is below 5°C, the heating device is automatically activated, providing dual protection along with the passive insulation of the glass wool. For example, a mobile toilet in a scenic spot on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau adopts a design of "glass wool + aluminum foil reflective layer + electric heating film", which can maintain an internal temperature of above 10°C even in an environment of -45°C, ensuring the normal operation of the equipment.

Core Action Mechanism of Insulation Cotton

Both materials play a role by inhibiting the three ways of heat transfer:

  1. Blocking conduction: The fibrous structure extends the heat transfer path, reducing heat loss per unit time;
  2. Reducing convection: The enclosed air layer restricts air movement, weakening convective heat transfer;
  3. Suppressing radiation: Some products are coated with a low-emissivity coating on their surfaces to reduce heat radiation loss.
    Experimental data shows that mobile toilets using high-quality insulation cotton have their comprehensive insulation performance improved by 3 times compared to traditional toilets, with energy consumption reduced by more than 50%, significantly extending the service life of the equipment in low-temperature environments.
