Installation of Transparent Glass in Mobile Toilets
Admin October 06, 2026
The installation of transparent glass in mobile toilets manifests differently in various scenarios and is subject to certain controversies.

Applications in Different Scenarios
- Scenic Area Special Toilets: Some scenic areas adopt transparent glass designs for toilets to create unique landscapes. For example, on February 10, 2015, China's first five-star transparent toilet opened in Guilin, Guangxi, with transparent floor-to-ceiling glass walls in the men's toilet; on September 30, 2016, a fully transparent glass toilet was built and opened to the public in Shiyanhu, Changsha, Hunan, with only a glass partition between the men's and women's toilets; in 2022, a men's toilet in Qinyang Sports Center, Henan, was equipped with panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing people in the toilet to have a panoramic view of the outside scenery. These designs aim to attract tourists and become distinctive highlights of the scenic areas.
- Special Function Toilets: Some toilets use one-way transparent glass to meet special functional requirements. On February 20, 2021, a "one-way transparent toilet" costing 800,000 yuan in the Jasmine Expo Park in Qianwei, Sichuan, attracted attention. Inside this toilet, one can clearly see the outside, but the outside cannot see into the toilet; in 2021, a public toilet in a shopping mall in Leshan, Sichuan, was equipped with one-way transparent glass doors facing the outside, allowing those inside the toilet to clearly see the flow of people outside. This design ensures user privacy while meeting specific observation needs.
Controversies
- Privacy Concerns: Transparent glass toilets easily raise privacy concerns. For instance, the frosted glass doors of toilets in two buildings in Luohu District, Shenzhen, become transparent when someone smokes, exposing every move inside the stalls. Although this is effective for smoking control, it has sparked discussions about privacy rights. Installing glass doors in ordinary toilets also poses privacy issues due to light transmission. Different types of glass have varying privacy effects; rainbow glass, frosted glass, and water ripple glass may all expose privacy under certain conditions. Only double-glazed units with blinds between the two panes can provide better privacy protection, but they are more expensive.
- Other Issues: In addition to privacy concerns, transparent glass toilets also suffer from issues such as poor sound insulation and water stains, affecting the user experience.
