Mobile Toilet Guide Sign

Huizhou West Lake Scenic Area once installed manually switchable mobile toilet guide signs, which were later removed due to the risk of confusion caused by visitors randomly toggling them. Similar attempts at 'tide toilets' have also been made in other regions.

Mobile Toilet Guide Signs in Huizhou West Lake Scenic Area

Huizhou West Lake Scenic Area once installed manually switchable mobile toilet guide signs, which were approximately 2 meters tall. The design was quite unique; with a gentle flick of the hand, the men's toilet could be switched to a women's toilet, and flicking it back would restore the original toilet signage. The original intention of this design was to flexibly adjust toilet usage based on the toilet needs of visitors of different genders at different times within the scenic area, thereby improving toilet efficiency. However, during actual use, visitors were found to randomly toggle the signs, leading to confusion in toilet signage and causing difficulties for other visitors in finding suitable toilets. As a result, these sliding signs have been removed and are set to be replaced with fixed slot-type door signs.

Attempts at 'Tide Toilets' in Other Regions

In addition to Huizhou West Lake Scenic Area, some parks and scenic spots in other regions such as Shenzhen, Dongguan, Hangzhou, Wuhan, and Chongqing have also trialed 'tide toilets'. These 'tide toilets' employ different methods to achieve flexible adjustment of toilet stalls. Some use movable signs to dynamically change signage based on real-time visitor flow, guiding visitors to suitable toilet stalls; others use lockable sliding doors, which can be locked or unlocked to adjust toilet stall access permissions when needed. These attempts are all aimed at better responding to changes in visitor toilet needs in different scenarios, improving the utilization efficiency of toilet resources, and alleviating the problem of difficult toilet access.
