Principle of Mobile Toilet Flushing

Admin September 21, 2026

The principles of mobile toilets vary depending on their types, mainly divided into water-flush and waterless-flush categories, as detailed below:

The core operation of a water-flush direct-discharge mobile toilet is an integrated on-site treatment system. Its workflow is as follows: clean water is pre-stored in a water tank. When flushing is needed, the clean water is released for flushing. The sewage, mixed with excrement, enters a separation and preliminary treatment chamber. In this chamber, solid substances are first intercepted through physical filtration to prevent them from entering subsequent treatment stages and causing blockages or affecting treatment efficiency. Then, microbial communities are used for biochemical treatment, where microorganisms decompose organic pollutants into water, gases, and inorganic substances. After treatment, the liquid is tested. If it meets discharge standards, it can be stored or transported by specialized vehicles to a sewage treatment plant for further processing. This type of mobile toilet requires a certain water supply and needs to be equipped with corresponding sewage treatment equipment, making it suitable for locations with a water source and high hygiene requirements.

Waterless-flush mobile toilets, on the other hand, use physical, biological, or chemical technologies to replace the water-flush function. Common technologies include:

  • Packing type: Mechanical devices are used to seal excrement in biodegradable plastic bags. After a user uses the toilet, the mechanical device automatically collects the excrement into the plastic bag and seals it to prevent odor emission and environmental pollution. These plastic bags filled with excrement can be collected centrally and disposed of uniformly, such as through landfilling or incineration.
  • Biodegradable type: Microbial strains are used to decompose excrement. Under suitable environmental conditions, microorganisms can decompose the organic substances in excrement into water and carbon dioxide. This treatment method is environmentally friendly and efficient, requiring no large amount of water resources and producing no secondary pollution.
  • Circulating filtration type: Chemicals are added to treat and purify the liquid to meet the standards for circulating flushing. During treatment, solid substances are separated and stored, while the purified liquid can be reused for flushing, achieving water resource recycling.

In addition, some mobile toilets adopt traditional water-flush designs, such as hand-washing tank water injection and foot-pedal water outlet, with clean water supplied by opening a valve on the water tank. Waterless-flush toilets do not require connection to water supply and drainage networks, making them suitable for outdoor activities and temporary gatherings.
