Classification of Mobile Toilets as Fixed Assets

Admin October 16, 2026

Mobile toilets, as fixed assets, are typically classified under the category of houses and buildings, but there are various classification scenarios depending on the context.

Houses and Buildings Category: Although mobile public toilets possess mobility, if they are owned by enterprises and used for business management (such as providing public services) and have a usage period exceeding 12 months, they meet the definition of fixed assets and are generally classified under the houses and buildings category. These mobile toilets have the characteristic of long-term use and, as long-term facilities for business premises, conform to the accounting standards for fixed assets, requiring depreciation to be calculated in accordance with regulations. For example, independent mobile public toilets commonly found in cities can be classified in this way if they are operated and maintained by enterprises.

Other Classification Scenarios: Different industries and enterprises classify mobile toilets differently based on their characteristics and uses.

  • Special Equipment: Some enterprises, due to the mobile toilets being equipped with sewage treatment systems and having a higher functional complexity than ordinary facilities, record them under the 'special equipment' account.
  • Mobile Service Facilities: Service-oriented enterprises may regard them as 'mobile service facilities' because they need to be relocated according to service scenarios (such as exhibitions and event sites).
  • Public Infrastructure/Sanitation Equipment: Municipal departments may classify them under the 'public infrastructure' or 'sanitation equipment' categories according to management needs.
  • Green Assets: Environmentally friendly mobile public toilets that adopt energy-saving technologies or renewable materials may be mixed into the 'green assets' classification.
  • Tourism Support Facilities: Mobile toilets purchased by scenic spots need to take into account both tourism service functions and seasonal disassembly requirements and may be separately classified as 'tourism support facilities'.
  • New Energy Equipment: For toilets with photovoltaic power generation functions, their power generation systems may be separately listed as 'new energy equipment', while the main body of the toilet is still classified as a 'fixed asset'.
  • Temporary Facilities: Construction companies may place them under the 'temporary facilities' account because they need to be relocated according to the progress of the project.
  • Transportation Vehicles/Special Equipment: Refitted truck-type toilets, which combine mobility and sanitation functions, may be difficult to define between 'transportation vehicles' and 'special equipment'.
  • Rural Toilet Renovation Special Assets: Township governments may create a 'rural toilet renovation special assets' account for special management.
  • War Preparedness Supplies: Military field toilets are directly classified as 'war preparedness supplies' due to their special military use.
  • Religious Facilities/Sanitation Equipment: Mobile meditation toilets purchased by temples may be difficult to choose between 'religious facilities' and 'sanitation equipment' due to functional overlaps.
