Current Status of Mobile Toilets in China

Admin September 23, 2026

The Chinese mobile toilet market has recently exhibited notable characteristics of rapid growth, regional differentiation, diverse application scenarios, technological upgrades, and policy-driven development.

Continuous Market Expansion: In 2024, the market size of mobile toilets in China reached 58.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.3%. It is projected to grow to 67.8 billion yuan by 2025, with the growth rate rising to 15.5%. This growth is primarily driven by the demand for upgrading urban and rural public sanitation facilities, the increased frequency of large-scale events, and the advancement of the rural revitalization strategy.

Regional Differentiation: The East China and South China regions, characterized by economic vitality and high population mobility, have become the most extensive application areas for mobile toilets, with the combined share of East China and North China reaching nearly 45% in 2024. Jiangsu Province, Shandong Province, and Beijing City have significant demand due to large-scale events and tourist attractions. The central and western regions are rapidly catching up in market size, driven by urbanization and rural revitalization policies, with third- and fourth-tier cities primarily using basic models such as single/double direct-discharge toilets.

Diverse Application Scenarios: Mobile toilets have penetrated multiple niche sectors. Large-scale events (e.g., marathons, music festivals) represent the primary scenario due to temporary demand. The rural revitalization strategy has spurred demand for the transformation of rural dry toilets. Tourist attractions, construction sites, and temporary exhibitions urgently require flexible sanitation facilities. Niche scenarios such as construction site support, disaster emergency response, and maternal and child care also form stable demand.

Product Types and Technological Upgrades: The domestic market primarily features basic models such as simple portable toilets, which are molded from PE eco-friendly plastic and weigh only 1.5-3 kg, emphasizing cost-effectiveness. Regional markets exhibit differentiation; for example, in Hebei Province, eco-friendly foam-sealed toilets and water-saving flush toilets account for over 60% of the market, with features such as smart sensor doors and deodorization systems gradually becoming widespread. Technological upgrades focus on modular design, water-saving technologies, and biodegradation systems. Some high-end products integrate IoT monitoring, automatic cleaning, and energy consumption management functions to enhance operational efficiency.

Policy Support as a Core Driver: The government has increased investment in urban and rural sanitation infrastructure, with many regions strengthening public sanitation facility planning. The rural toilet renovation project under the rural revitalization strategy has been implemented on a large scale nationwide, becoming a key factor driving market demand.
