Mobile Toilet DIY Guide

Admin September 23, 2026

Mobile toilets can be homemade according to different scenarios and needs. Here are three common DIY guides:

Making a Portable Toilet Using a Water Storage Barrel

Basic Structure Construction: First, use an angle grinder to split the water storage barrel in half. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board for mobility. Attach wooden strips to the upper side of the barrel with self-tapping screws to increase height. Then, use the angle grinder to cut an opening on the side of the barrel. Install sponge strips on both sides of the opening to form a door frame. Insert plastic soft boards between the wooden strips to create raised walls. Place the upper half of the barrel on top of the wooden strips as a roof. Finally, paint the wooden strips with white waterproof paint to enhance aesthetics. Indoor Device Installation: Use a hole-cutting tool to create an opening at the bottom of the barrel and install a drain pipe to form a floor drain. Cut holes on the side and bottom of a plastic bucket and connect them with direct fittings. Place the plastic bucket on the roof to form a small water storage device. Connect a water pipe-made bath heater, install a three-way fitting below the water inlet pipe and connect it to a showerhead. Place a toilet on the drain pipe opening, install a water tank and fix it with glass glue, and connect the drain pipe to a sewage barrel. Horizontally connect a water pipe to the three-way fitting of the outlet pipe and extend it to the door as the water inlet pipe for the sink. Connect one end of an external fitting to the water inlet pipe and the other end to a hose. Cut an opening on the door and install the fitting.

Making a Portable Toilet Using a Water Storage Tank and a Pallet

Basic Structure Construction: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of a plastic pallet and place a water storage tank on it. Use an angle grinder to cut along the marked line on the top of the tank to remove one side and form an open tank. Invert another open-top water storage tank and stack it on the first one, securing the outer frames of the two tanks with self-tapping screws. Cut a rectangular opening with a height of 180 cm and a width of 50 cm on the outer frame of the tank as a door opening. Indoor Device Installation: Use a hole-cutting tool to create an opening on the internal floor of the tank. Insert a elbow from the bottom upwards and cut a section of water pipe. Seal the gaps with glue and then cut off the excess pipe. Align the toilet with the drain opening and fix it with glue. Fix a water pipe on the wall clips and install a faucet. Fix a pipe cap with screws below the faucet, connect the water pipe and create an opening at the bottom as a drain outlet. Cut an opening on the pipe cap, apply glass glue, and fix a sink made of a stainless steel basin. Connect the water inlet pipe to the toilet water tank, connect the shower hose, and install a shower bracket and a toilet seat. Install a showerhead made of a water pipe. Finally, bring a wooden board, fix hinges on the frame of the tank, attach the other side of the hinges to the wooden board to form the toilet door, and install a door handle.

Homemade Simple "Mobile Toilet" (Suitable for Self-driving Tours with Children)

Dealing with a Child's Urgency: Take out some of the cotton and absorbent particles from a diaper and put them into a sealed plastic bag, utilizing the absorbency of the diaper cotton. Dealing with a Child's Bowel Movement: Use a large plastic bag to collect it. Other Simple Methods: Use a small cardboard box with a plastic bag underneath as a mobile toilet. Optimization Plan: If possible, add a small packet of superabsorbent polymer to the sealed plastic bag. When exposed to water, the outer packaging will automatically dissolve.
