Depreciation of Mobile Toilets

Admin September 20, 2026

The depreciation period of mobile toilets needs to be evaluated based on specific circumstances, typically ranging from 3 to 15 years, depending on classification standards, usage scenarios, and maintenance conditions.

I. Minimum Period Required by Tax Law

According to tax law requirements, if mobile toilets are classified as assets such as equipment, tools, or furniture related to production and business activities, their depreciation period generally should not be less than 3 years. This standard applies to ordinary mobile toilets purchased by enterprises, emphasizing the direct correlation between assets and business activities, but does not consider differences in the durability of the equipment itself.

II. Durability Differences in Actual Use

Environmentally friendly mobile toilets, due to their modular design that allows for repeated disassembly and assembly, generally have an actual service life of no less than 15 years. However, this value is influenced by multiple factors:

  • Material Quality: The durability of high-strength composite materials or corrosion-resistant metals is significantly better than that of ordinary plastics;
  • Usage Frequency: High-frequency usage scenarios such as tourist attractions and construction sites accelerate equipment wear and tear;
  • Maintenance and Upkeep: Regular cleaning and component replacement can extend the service life to over 20 years;
  • Environmental Conditions: Coastal humid areas or environments with extreme temperature variations can shorten the equipment's lifespan.

III. Classification Standards in Accounting Treatment

Mobile toilets purchased by enterprises that meet the following conditions need to be depreciated as assets similar to buildings:

  • Service life exceeding one year;
  • Relatively high unit value (usually referring to a purchase price of over 10,000 yuan). Such assets need to comply with the depreciation standards for fixed assets in the Accounting Standards for Business Enterprises, with the depreciation period possibly extending to 8-10 years, consistent with industry practice.

IV. Period Reference in Industry Practice

The depreciation period for mobile public toilets is typically 8-10 years, a value that takes into account equipment costs, maintenance costs, and replacement needs:

  • Compared to the hidden costs of renovating fixed toilets every 5-7 years, the modular structure of mobile toilets reduces long-term maintenance expenses;
  • Public utility departments or operators tend to adopt a 10-year period to balance asset replacement with fiscal budgets.

V. Comprehensive Evaluation Principles

When determining the depreciation period, the following logic should be followed:

  1. Prioritize compliance with the minimum tax law requirements (3 years);
  2. Consider the actual durability of the equipment (15 years as the theoretical upper limit);
  3. Reference the industry's common period (8-10 years);
  4. Dynamically adjust maintenance investments: High maintenance frequency can appropriately shorten the depreciation period, while the opposite can extend it. The final period needs to be confirmed through an asset evaluation report or备案 (filing) with tax authorities.
